Title: Research Graduate Assistant Employee Classification: GS - Graduate Student - Stipend Pay Grade: GS 00 Division: Academic and Student Affairs Subdivision: Leadership and Counsel Department: College of Education Campus Location: Main Campus General Summary The Department of Leadership & Counseling needs a graduate assistant to assist professional staff with documentation, research, communications, and representation of faculty and department at professional meetings. Principal Duties and Responsibilities LEARNING OUTCOMES: By the end of the assistantship, the student will have acquired experience in an academic setting and become knowledgeable about the operation of an academic department. The graduate assistant will increase his/her knowledge of the administrative skills necessary to perform the duties of faculty. The graduate assistant will become acquainted with EMU faculty who are actively pursuing careers in their field of study and will build relationships that may aid their career goals. Assisting in the preparation of materials for class, department, or research projects or grants Conducting database and library research Taking minutes at department meetings Serving on committees or attending meetings as the department representative Organizing department forums, i.e., internship supervisor training Aiding in the preparation of department accreditation and program review processes Communicating department philosophy and policies Minimum Qualifications: Good judgement Passion for service Organization and attention to detail Rapid and accurate keyboarding Effective interpersonal Written communication skills Preferred Qualifications: Practice with both MAC and PC platforms; knowledge of Filemaker Pro, Microsoft Office, and the Internet
