Title: Graduate Assistant, Academic Advising - Francine Parker Advising Center Employee Classification: GS Pay Grade: GS 00 Division: Academic and Student Affairs Subdivision: Director University Advising Department: Academic Programming and Services Campus Location: Main Campus General Summary With the guidance of one or more staff or faculty members, perform a mixture of services in support of communication, technology, business operations or student affairs activities as more than 50% of their service. The Staff Graduate Assistant receives a stipend and tuition waiver subject to federal tax. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Provide educational guidance and assistance for CAS students when choosing courses, creating schedules, and planning for academic success Facilitate weekly quick-question advising sessions Gain familiarity advising a diverse population of students, including first-generation, non-traditional, probationary, and culturally diverse students Meet with new students through freshman orientation and transfer appointments to assist them with initial adjustment to university academic life Assist in planning, implementing, and executing group advising sessions and student outreach programs Create print and digital materials for use in the advising office Occasionally plan, budget, and implement events geared toward student success Other office-related duties, as requested by the staff Minimum Qualifications: Have an interest in serving students in a higher education setting Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills Ability to take initiative and exhibit independent judgment Knowledge of the Microsoft, Zoom, and Google suites Excellent organizational skills; capable of multitasking effectively Familiarity with library resources and search tools Demonstrate competency in public relations, customer service, and communication Ability to work independently and as part of a team Energetic, proactive, and service-driven Ability to work up to 20 hours per week (10 for 50%) is required. GPA of 3.0 or higher is required. Admission and enrollment in a graduate program are required. Maintenance of a 67% course completion is required. Enrollment in at least 6 credits for the Fall and Winter semesters is required.
