Summary:

This position is located in Wynyard, Saskatchewan and it is a requirement for this person to reside in Canada. This position is responsible for meeting safe operations, environmental requirements, quality and quantity targets and sound fiscal management related to the processing of Sulfate of Potash (agricultural and non-agricultural) into finished goods that meet quality specifications. Provides effective leadership resulting in continuous improvement. Position will coach the activities of production and support function direct reports.

Essential Job Functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Directly managing, supporting and providing direction and leadership to all engineering personnel.

  • Oversee engineering functional responsibilities to ensure timely project delivery, project management, cost control and customer satisfaction.

  • Reviews and approves departmental short term/long term plans and production schedules with subordinates. Ensures that related strategies in plant efficiency management, inventory control and coordination of shipments support overall objectives.

  • Coordinates support functions to ensure optimal efficiency in line with meeting site goals.

  • Controls and/or coordinates the allocation of departmental personnel, machinery and other resources to optimize production at the lowest possible cost.

  • Evaluates proposed facility maintenance shutdowns and/or equipment repairs. Considers relative cost to benefit issues and approves or reschedules accordingly.

  • Maintains plant operating instructions and efficiency statistics.

  • Cultivates proactive health, safety and environmental processes, which support company policy and comply with law.

  • Ensures that all company standards, practices and procedures are followed.

  • Prepares and maintains departmental budgets and capital requests.

  • Evaluates and manages operational costs, equipment/process efficiencies and departmental productivity. Provides related guidance to direct reports as necessary.

  • Monitors departmental employee performance, development, training and succession management needs. Establishes protocols which prompt optimal growth in said areas.

  • Utilizes available company resources effectively and promulgates positive interdepartmental relationships.

  • Promotes and monitors a departmental culture conducive of generating effective collaboration, continuous improvements, customer satisfaction and employee morale.

  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited educational institution.

  • A minimum of 8 –years’ experience in industrial plant operations management.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills of involving employees in the business through use of empowerment techniques, collaboration, building an environment of trust, teamwork, open communications, and positive results.
