INTRODUCTION: The function of the organization where this position is located is in official functional statements. The purpose of this position is to mix and serve Latte's, Cappuccino's, Espresso's, Americana's, and assorted other beverages the general public may order off the menu. II. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Operates full service espresso bar. Prepares a wide range of drinks including but not limited to: lattes, espresso, Americano, and cappuccinos by selecting the proper grind of coffee shot and following set recipes for each individual variation of drink. 2. Must be able to follow basic cappuccino requirement of each type of drink including but not limited to; preheating the portafilter, knowing the difference in grinds of coffee, knowing how long should a shot take to brew into a cup, preheating the cup, how to "pull'" and "tamp" into the portafilter, difference in frothing and steaming milk, and able to know difference and relay information to customers on the difference in drink choices. 3. Performs receiving and disbursing cashier duties. Sets up cappuccino bar for operation and obtains cash bank. Prepares documentation for cash funds accountability. 4. Maintains work to ensure that it is neat and clean. Washes cappuccino bar equipment and utensils. Stocks service bars and assists supervisor on duty if necessary. 5. Performs other related duties as assigned. III CONTROLS OVER WORK: Incumbent is responsible for independently completing work as scheduled after initial oral or written instructions when changes or new assignments are made. Supervisor checks periodically to see that work is done on time and according to instructions. Supervisor provides guidance and evaluates work performance and is available to answer questions and resolve customer dissatisfactions. IV. OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS: 1. Skills and Knowledge: Must be skilled in doing tasks with several steps and must use judgment in sequencing tasks. Knowledge of sanitation standards for handling and serving, and cleaning equipment and work area. Knowledge of correct proportions and mixes to use in preparing various espressos. Knowledge to perform the requirements stated in the duties and responsibilities. Ability to follow cash handling procedures. 2. Physical Effort: Frequently lifts or moves objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Continuous standing, walking, frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling and bending. May be required to work on ladders and use powered cleaning equipment. 3. Working Conditions: Uncomfortably high temperature and humidity are created by steam and heat from various bar equipment. Area is usually noisy and there is danger of slipping on wet floors where food or beverage has been dropped. Exposed to hot liquids, hot working surfaces and extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigeration or freezer units. Must be skilled in doing tasks with several steps and must use judgment in sequencing tasks. Must have knowledge of sanitation standards in handling and serving food, cleaning equipment and work area. Must be physically able to frequently lift or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds. May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty (evenings, weekends, and holidays). Must be able to read, speak, and understand the English language well. Must be able to follow simple recipe cards. Must be able demonstrate excellent customer service skills. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a preemployment physical. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a background check (T1). Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying. Additional Information Individual must fully meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
