YOUR SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position spends the majority of the time engaged in supervisory responsibilities. This includes communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees in addition to planning and directing employees' work. The incumbent has the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline subordinate employees or effectively recommend such action. The incumbent will also be required to develop performance expectations, meet with staff regularly to discuss performance, complete performance reviews, maintain vacation and work schedules, ensuring proper coverage, and complete timesheets.”

This position is responsible for supervising staff of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) and for providing WIC and Nutrition services within an assigned geographic area in Orange County. The headquarters for this position is the Winter Garden WIC Office. Travel may be required . Licensure by the Department of Health, Division of Medical Quality Assurance as a licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist is mandatory. A Registered Dietitian or eligibility to take the examination for the Registered Dietitian is desirable. This position serves as the information and security delegate for their assigned site.

Ensures all staff complete required training and are offered additional training. Performs monitoring and quality assurance activities at predetermined intervals. Develops and implements appropriate corrective action plan(s) in order to maintain quality program services

Prepares records and reports, summarizes and analyzes statistics of WIC Program services and activities at regular intervals. Supply and inventory requisitions and reports are submitted monthly. Reviews and approves EARs, time and attendance reports and travel reimbursement for site staff, prior to submission

Performs nutrition assessment, provides culturally relevant nutrition counseling, develops nutrition care plans and completes appropriate documentation of services provided in WIC administrative and/or medical file. Determines nutritional risk and/or income eligibility and certifies eligible participants to the WIC Program in accordance with DHM 150-24. Evaluates program eligibility status of each client to ensure that a valid issuance of electronic benefits can be performed. Issues WIC Program electronic benefits to certified participants in accordance with procedures outlined in DHM 150-24 and the Florida WISE System Manual. Schedules appointments for participants through the WIC appointment system. Reviews use of electronic benefits in approved grocery stores. Answers questions regarding access to WIC program services. Prepares records and reports, summarizes, and analyzes statistics of WIC Program services and activities at regular intervals. Supply and inventory requisitions and reports are submitted monthly. Reviews and approves EARs, time and attendance reports and travel reimbursement for site staff, prior to submission. Oversees the integration of WIC and Nutrition program services within the assigned geographic area. Coordinates overall site management and program activities with other WIC and departmental supervisors, as well as community agencies and organizations. Serves as a consultant on nutrition and dietetics for health department staff, community agencies and the public. Maintains up to date knowledge of current theory and practice of nutrition and dietetics. Participates in comprehensive nutrition program and/or outreach activities, as requested.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A verifiable license as a Dietitian/Nutritionist in accordance with Chapter 468, Florida Statutes.

  • 2 years of professional experience in Public Health Nutrition, or have a master’s degree in Nutrition from an accredited college or university recognized by the “Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

  • Verifiable experience working with the Florida WIC program since 2014.(Preferred)

  • May be required to work during or beyond normal work hours or days in event of an emergency. Emergency duty require the incumbent to work in Special Needs or Red Cross Shelters, or to perform other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster, man-made or natural.
