Windham Southwest Supervisory Union Bus Drivers and Substitute Bus Drivers in Wilmington, Vermont
This job was posted by https://www.vermontjoblink.com : For more information, please see: https://www.vermontjoblink.com/jobs/1114191 The Bus Driver is responsible for providing safe transport for Twin Valley Unified Union School District (TVUUSD) school children based on a schedule and route determined by the Transportation Coordinator, helping students board the bus, learning which students take their route and planning around traffic during trips. This position interacts daily with children and serves as their trusted transportation to and from school. This position requires a Class B CDL with a Passenger Endorsement and the ability to have an authoritative, yet calming demeanor and a strong understanding of traffic laws.
Core Responsibilities:
Transports children to and from school on time, learning the names of their students and fostering a positive relationship with them;
Maintains a clean and mechanically sound bus at all times, notifying the Transportation Coordinator of any issues;
Participates in regular training offered by the Transportation Coordinator and attends all safety meetings;
Ensures the safety of all students by obeying all traffic laws;
Performs daily inspections of the bus before and after each route;
Discipline children as needed, applying proper techniques learned from training to maintain a safe environment for all;
Verifies permissions for children who ride home with friends;
Assists students with getting on and off the bus as needed;
Works with a wide variety of others (parents, teachers, supervisors, board members, police officers, road officials, etc.) in a positive and productive fashion, which leads to the prompt and harmonious resolution of issues;
Maintains the correct Vermont licensure to safely operate a school bus.
Commitment to support and uphold WSWSU policies, procedures, mission and strategic plan.
Qualifications:
A valid Vermont Class B CDL with a Passenger Endorsement;
Ability to perform a variety of daily tasks in a timely manner;
Ability to learn, understand, and resolve issues with vehicles, particularly school buses.
Required Skills and Abilities of the TVUUSD School Bus Driver:
LANGUAGE Must be able to communicate effectively, both oral and written.
MECHANICS Must have the ability to learn and understand vehicles, particularly school buses, and the operation/maintenance thereof. Must hold a valid Vermont Class B CDL with a Passenger Endorsement.
TECHNOLOGY Ability to learn how to use proper safety equipment and two-way radios.
REASONING Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions, including when to implement discipline protocol and obeying all traffic laws.
SOCIAL Exercise mature judgment and diplomacy in dealing with complaints and concerns from families, members of the public, and school boards. Must be able to promote good relationships internally and perform all duties with tact and courtesy.

Safety equipment;
2-Way Radio.
Physical/Mental Requirements:
Frequent up and down movement from sitting to standing. May involve some prolonged periods of sitting driving. Stress can result from the fast pace of work. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone, lift up to 50 lbs., move under/around vehicles, bending, stooping, kneeling, accessing crawlspaces, and using ladders. Work Environment:
Work will be performed both indoors and outdoors in all kinds of weather in a fast-paced environment. Indoor work will occur inside a school bus that is frequently noisy/distracting.
Evaluation:
Performance will be evaluated annually by the Transportation Coordinator in accordance with responsibiliti s outlined above, initiative, professional characteristics, skill in dealing with the unanticipated, and success in meeting predetermined objectives.
