Become a Security Investigations Senior Advisor at Southern California Edison (SCE) Corporate Security and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you’ll conduct and participate in both external and internal field investigations with company and governmental investigators to ensure the company’s compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies. Your primary responsibility is to protect worker safety, prevent crime on SCE property, and mitigate risks of physical attacks on critical infrastructure. You will conduct investigations of security incidents, acts of violence, and threats of violence.

A day in the life - Get ready to think big, work smart, and shine bright!

  • Investigate and mitigate trespassing by transients and homeless people on SCE property; give notice of trespassing; and initiate removal of the individuals and their property if they do not comply.

  • Investigate and mitigate reported threats, assaults, and other hostile conflicts involving SCE employees, contractors, or customers. Liaison with law enforcement when necessary and appropriate.

  • Investigate and mitigate thefts, vandalism, and other incidents of damage or loss to SCE property including metal, construction materials, laptops, etcetera.

  • Conduct interviews of subjects, victims, and witnesses during an investigation and document in a coherent report.

  • Conduct security site surveys of various SCE facilities, initiate and participate in security technology projects, and conduct quality assurance checks on contract guard service personnel.

  • Provide protection and security services for executives and other employees when necessary and appropriate at internal and external events, including contentious public gatherings and employee termination and disciplinary meetings.

  • Respond to diverse calls for assistance, oftentimes in remote locations, made to Corporate Security 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days per year.

  • Provide training presentations to various SCE business units and employees on topics to include workplace violence prevention, active shooter response, and conflict avoidance in the field; provide training to law enforcement on topics to include metal theft, electrical safety, and critical infrastructure.

The essentials

  • Ten (10) years of Federal, State, or Local law enforcement investigation experience.

  • Completion of formal investigative training at a recognized institution or law enforcement academy.

  • Experience with proactive incident management teams.

  • Valid California Driver’s License.

  • Experience conducting in-depth interviews and documenting findings in a Case Management System.

  • Experience leading low to high-profile multiple concurrent investigations.

  • Experience analyzing information to figure out issues, violations, causes, and corrective action.

  • Experience preparing concise investigation reports.

  • Ability to travel on foot and/or vehicle through difficult terrain.

The preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Human Resources, Police Science, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Possession of a Carry a Concealed Weapons (CCW) permit.

  • Bilingual in another language.

  • You are a creative problem solver.

  • Experience in investigative techniques and methods.

  • Strong negotiation, conflict management, leadership, organizational, and analytical skills (negotiation and conflict management are critical when interacting with hostile/threatening customers and removing homeless encampments from SCE property/facilities).

  • Ability to work by themselves as well as being self-motivated.

  • Experience using Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • In-depth knowledge of the utility industry.

  • Knowledge of the hydro and dam sector.

  • Experience conducting investigations in a corporate setting.

  • Membership in the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals (ATAP).

  • CPP or PCI and other security-related certificates.

  • This position’s work mode is hybrid . The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.

  • Position will require up to 60% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory.

  • The primary work location for this position is Wildomar, CA, and will have responsibility for five SCE districts\: Menifee, Palm Springs, Yucca Valley, Blythe, and Wildomar.

  • The successful candidate may also be asked to work for a short or extended amount of time in other areas in and out of the SCE service territory.
