U.S. Military Academy Electronics Technician in West Point, New York

Summary About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. West Point is a self-contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants. Employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, Hudson Valley's performing arts center, and recreational facilities. Responsibilities Sets up laboratory areas for cadet academic instruction. Assists cadets and instructors in the proper use of equipment and components. Designs, fabricates and/or modifies equipment and equipment components used in classrooms,laboratory or for individual or research projects. Performs repair and maintenance on the various types of equipment (e.g. power supplies, signal and function generators, oscilloscopes, digital trainers, motor-generator sets, and various component analyzers, etc.). Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Fabricating, maintaining, calibrating and/or repairing laboratory equipment; 2) Setting up laboratory areas for course instruction, training purposes, or demonstrations; AND 3) Operating, programming and/or maintaining computers and/or resolving problems with computer-controlled equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). OR Education: a Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field closely related to electrical technician work such as Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Electrical Technology, or Physics. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of experience and education may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your graduate semester hours beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages and the total must equal at least 100% to qualify.) You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Computers and Electronics Customer Service Design Electronics Engineering Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-08). Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest. This position is not eligible for regular and recurring telework. This position is eligible for situational telework only, including emergency and OPM prescribed "unscheduled telework". Situational telework is approved on a case-by-case basis, where the hours worked were not part of a previously approved, ongoing, and regular telework schedule.
