Vail Resorts Manager of Health & Safety in West Dover, Vermont

Job Summary :

  • The Manager of Health and Safety will assist in setting strategy, leading, and planning, all aspects of Health and Safety at their functional location. This position will work closely with Health and Safety leadership, resort operations, and corporate leadership to create, build, implement and sustain a Health and Safety culture that achieves world-class safety performance. This position will work cross-functionally to support and cultivate safety programs and ensure they are properly vetted, on schedule and on budget. This position may collaborate with external partners, community leaders, and regulators in supporting the resort as well as the Company’s core value of Be Safe.

Job Specifications :

  • Starting Wage: $59,100 - $79,530 + annual bonus

  • Schedule & Availability: Full Time / Year Round

  • Outlet: Mount Snow / Remote

Job Responsibilities :

  • Influence and support the company’s Health and Safety strategy to achieve world-class Health and Safety performance within the travel and leisure Industry. Responsible for the strategy and management of:

  • Safety trainings

  • Audits and assessments results and compliance

  • Resort safety programs and compliance

  • Advising and coaching front line, department and resorts leaders on Health and Safety initiatives

  • Be an unbiased leader and voice for resort leadership so they understand the risks and opportunities to drive, improve, and then maintain superior safety performance.

  • Understand the core business needs and adjust safety strategy to the business.

  • Address compliance and regulatory safety, risk management trends and regulatory focus areas as directed by the Regional Senior Manager and/or Director.

  • Engage, as required, with local, state and federal officials as necessary to support Health and Safety Compliance and best practices.

  • Communicate across a variety of stakeholders in a matrix environment.

  • Identify and execute projects in coordination with Regional Senior Manager

  • Be a model for leadership development on the Health and Safety team

  • Advise and support the Regional Senior Manager and all operations including Mountain Division, Security, Environmental, Sustainability, Hospitality and VRR.

  • Responsibility for Health and Safety programing and oversight for multiple resort locations within the Midwest beyond immediate location.

  • Some travel in the region may be required.

  • Other duties or tasks as assigned

Job Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 1-3 years’ experience working in Health and Safety or related field

  • Supervisory Experience: Safety Committees, teams, or equivalent

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including project management software, Visio

  • Advanced Skier or Snowboarder

  • Preferred Skills or Competencies: Experience analyzing, and advising on safety data analytics

  • Experience leading and implementing change

  • Appropriate Accreditations: OSHA 501, 511, ASSP

  • Experience in influencing change

  • CSP or experience in the professional safety world

  • Operational experience in the winter sports industry or other ski area operations (not mandatory but useful)

The expected Total Compensation for this role is $59,100 - $79,530 + annual bonus. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.

Vail Resorts offers a ‘Hybrid’ work environment where employees living within 50 miles of the Broomfield office work on-site Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and have flexibility to work off-site on Mondays and Fridays. Employees living outside of a commutable distance can work remotely from British Columbia, Washington D.C., and the 16 U.S. states* in which we currently operate.
