Job Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for administering Instrument and Controls (I&C) or Mechanical craft planning for implementation, evaluation, corrective work instructions, and providing general support to the Maintenance teams as needed. Within the skill areas, a Nuclear Planning Specialist is expected to produce a high-quality product, be engaged with the work force, and seek ways to improve the product, use computer programs, analyze data and offer recommendations to engineers and supervisors. This position may be required to coordinate different projects or tasks.

Southern Nuclear, a subsidiary of Southern Company, manages and operates six nuclear power electric generating plants that provide approximately 20 percent of the electricity used in Alabama and Georgia. Southern Nuclear is leading the nuclear renaissance by building the first new U.S. nuclear reactors in more than 25 years. When completed, the two Westinghouse AP1000 reactors currently under construction at Plant Vogtle will make the facility the largest in the U.S. with four reactors on one site. Job Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED is required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree or similar military training is a plus.

  • Five (5) years maintenance (I&C or Mechanical) experience in power plant or heavy industrial environment or military equivalent is required.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word & Power Point)

  • Possess effective written and oral communication skills.

  • Knowledge of work management software programs (Experience with MAXIMO is preferred)

Preferences

  • Maintenance planning (I&C or Mechanical) experience in power plant or heavy industrial environment or military equivalent is required; SNC planning qual is a plus.

  • Knowledge of repetitive maintenance program, work controls processes, and procedures is preferred

  • Ability and desire to effectively lead others

  • Able to analyze problems and provide effective solutions

  • Knowledge of materials procurement, document control, and quality requirements is preferred

Other Requirements

  • Successful candidate must be willing to step outside of normal job duties to support leadership and training as needed

  • Successful candidate must be willing to be available for reasonable amounts of extended hours

  • Successful candidate must meet background screening and NRC fitness for Duty requirements
