The Building People Portfolio Energy Manager-Remote-DC in Washington, District Of Columbia
The Building People, LLC, has an opening for a Portfolio Energy Manager (PEM). The PEM will be responsible for supporting a senior government office on their entire portfolio utility (e.g., energy and water) consumption and cost profile. In addition to traditional certified energy manager (CEM) skill sets, familiarity with invoice processing platforms and workflow is highly preferred. The PEM will be responsible for overseeing, managing, and ensuring all required data is maintained in assigned databases and workbooks, and coordinating with various agency offices and various data requests. Qualified candidates will possess a minimum of 5 years of experience in energy-related disciplines and preference will be given to candidates with a CEM. The ideal candidates will be familiar with federal environmental and energy mandates and have a general understanding of energy markets across the US. Experience with ENERGY STAR and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) reporting is a plus.
Required Experience & Skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and ability to work with a team
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
Oversee, manage and ensure all required data is maintained in assigned databases and workbooks
Be able to conduct load profile analysis, and identify opportunities for utility savings and/or detrimental trends
Develop graphics and communication materials related to analyses
Have a general understanding of energy markets and various state regulations
Understand utility tariffs and market pricing across US
General understanding of renewable energy and smart building technologies
Familiarity with federal energy policy requirements
Minimum of 5 years of experience in the skillsets described above
Preferred Experience & Skills
Certified Energy Manager Certification
Familiarity with major building systems
Familiarity with GHG reporting
ASHRAE Certification and ability to perform ASHRAE audits
Familiarity with troubleshooting any of the following: smart building platforms, building retrocommissioning, and renewable energy systems (e.g., solar photovoltaic (PV))
Required Education
- Bachelor’s degree in related field

Place of Performance & Travel
This position is currently configured as remote, but qualified candidates will need to be able to travel. Specifically to meetings in the Washington DC metro region upon short notice.
