New America 2024 Fall - Program Coordination Intern (paid) in Washington, District Of Columbia

New America’s Planetary Politics initiative is a comprehensive endeavor aimed at fostering a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable global order. Our program aims to address the pressing issues facing humanity using three fundamental principles:

  • Adaptation as Power: In today's world, power no longer solely stems from traditional sources such as control of land and resources. Instead, it emanates from the ability to manage and adapt to the dynamic flows of data, money, people, and goods, as well as to navigate technological and environmental changes.

  • Inclusive Global Governance: Effective international cooperation hinges upon the inclusion of all stakeholders at the decision-making table. Our initiative advocates for the meaningful involvement of civil society, businesses, historically marginalized communities, and representatives from the Global South in shaping global affairs.

  • Prioritizing People and the Planet: While nationalism persists, the interconnected nature of global challenges underscores the importance of prioritizing the well-being of both people and the planet. Our focus is on transcending ideological divides and prioritizing the interests of humanity and environmental sustainability over narrow profit motives and power struggles between states.

New America’s Planetary Politics Initiative seeks applicants with a strong interest in public policy, international affairs, events management, and program coordination for our paid Fall 2024 Program internship.

The intern will support Planetary Politics’ two workstreams: Digital Futures, which convenes global stakeholders and catalyzes new thinking in the geopolitics and governance of digital technologies, and Power Reimagined, which seeks to support efforts to imagine and implement a just energy transition globally.

Responsibilities will include aiding with events management, program coordination, external relations, and outreach efforts. Principally, the intern will support the planning and execution of the Digital Futures Symposium “Sovereignty and Agency in the Age of AI,” a flagship event at New America’s office in Washington D.C. in November that will bring together a globally diverse group of policymakers and experts to examine the concept of sovereign AI.
