Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will report into the Direct Materials & Distribution Director within Global Strategic Sourcing (GSS). You will be responsible for developing the sourcing strategy, leading supplier selection and negotiations, and supplier relationship strategy for the Device category ($400M spend.) The Strategic Sourcing Manager will be accountable for understanding the business and category strategy and then developing comprehensive strategic sourcing strategies to meet the vital objectives and maximum value delivery to Amgen internal customers, shareholders and patients.

As a Strategic Sourcing Senior Manager you will:

  • Serve as the strategic sourcing expert, leading the end-to-end sourcing lifecycle in drug delivery devices

  • Develop strong, mutually beneficial relationships with key category managers and internal customers to understand internal needs and strategies

  • Develop deep supplier relationships and expert understanding of the supply market

  • Deliver supplier relationship strategies in line with supplier segmentation, category strategy and business needs

  • Collaborate to build a multi-year strategy for the category that will deliver year over year efficiency and value; Measure and manage supplier performance

  • Lead negotiations, contract management and strategy for the related supply base

  • Provide subject matter advice to internal and external customer groups addressing current/future business needs, demonstrating marketplace knowledge

  • Act as a trusted business advisor, providing thought leadership and consistent customer service

  • Lead and influence customer groups with sound and articulate case recommendations with quantifiable financial benefits

  • Ability to effectively communicate strategies, drive decisions and challenge partners

  • Be a champion of Productivity and Supply Assurance efforts within the category

  • Own the strategic sourcing process and the frame-work and set of practices

  • Act as an ambassador for the GSS function and a key point of contact for the category, both within and outside of GSS

  • Effectively drive cross-category collaboration where ‘overlapping’ partner groups, geographic regions and / or requirements exist

  • Manage, minimize and mitigate supply/contractual/regulatory risk by bringing to bear other key Amgen functions where appropriate

  • Develop and model multiple cases to demonstrate the potential opportunities and impact of options across a category

  • Develop baseline cost analysis and cost models to accurately represent current state and ability to build dynamic total cost of ownership models with multiple scenarios in order to evaluate and quantify value

Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree and 2 years of Procurement with any combination of Finance, Engineering, Contract Manufacturing or Raw Material experience; OR

  • Master’s degree and 4 years of Procurement with any combination of Finance, Engineering, Contract Manufacturing or Raw Material experience; OR

  • Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of Procurement with any combination of Finance, Engineering, Contract Manufacturing or Raw Material experience; OR

  • Associate’s degree and 10 years of Procurement with any combination of Finance, Engineering, Contract Manufacturing or Raw Material experience; OR

  • High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Procurement with any combination of Finance, Engineering, Contract Manufacturing or Raw Material experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Solid understanding of procurement/sourcing/category management methodology and able to drive value for customers improving fit-for-purpose sourcing levers

  • Excellent and disciplined project management and prioritization skills with ability to react to project adjustments and alterations promptly and efficiently

  • Ability to conform to shifting priorities and have ability to drive multiple simultaneous

  • Strong eye for business in order to quickly understand functional/category dynamics and develop category strategies that drive value

  • Ability to deliver complex multi-regional and/or global projects in a matrixed and global environment

  • Broad knowledge of the market forces shaping a customer’s business context (e.g. supplier

  • Ability to understand external market information, including ability to conduct benchmarking to address cost, quality, risk and innovation considerations

  • Ability to understand cost drivers, internal costs and future demand and re requirements

  • Ability to provide thought leadership, ability to influence and actively shape strategy

  • Strong financial savvy and problem-solving skills

  • Strong executive communicator with the ability to create and communicate complex cases in a simple and effective manner

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
