3 Vacant Positions

The Student Research Assistant, under general supervision, will assist the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering by conducting analysis and design of machine and structural components on research sponsored by The Rio Grande Consortium. This research will help the student to prepare for industry careers.

Responsibilities:

• Assist faculty and staff on research projects

• Perform general office tasks

• Assist with special project as assigned

• Perform other duties as assigned

Required Education and Experience:

• Presently enrolled at Prairie View A&M University for at least nine (9) graduate or six (6) undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done.

• Must be in good academic standing (SAP) as demonstrated through your college; minimum 2.0 GPA

• No prior experience necessary

• For work eligibility during a summer term, a student must be enrolled for at least three (3) graduate or undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done or preregistered at least six (6) undergraduate semester hours or nine (9) graduate semester hours for the upcoming fall term.

Preferred Education and Experience:

• Any major currently in the College of Engineering including Computer Science will be considered

• Candidates who have already taken CVEG 2332 - Mechanics of Materials course may be given priority

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Civil and Mechanical Engineering background

• Interest in research relating to structural and/or machine components design and simulation analysis using ANSYS and/or STAAD software programs.

Other Requirements:

• Per grant-funding requirements, applicants will only be considered if they are U.S. Citizens.
