Glimpse of the Job
The Student Development Specialist II (Aquatic Coordinator - Events) will be primarily responsible for managing and aquatic events: hiring, training and supervising event staff and daily pool use around events. Assists in the supervision, training, development and evaluation of the lifeguard staff. Serves as departmental liaison for Fusion Software.
Your Opportunity to Contribute
Events - Arranges pools to accommodate event usage including coordinating with other user groups. Coordinates all aquatic events and pool rental set-ups including staffing, pool configuration, timing, etc. Evaluates events after they occur and make recommendations for future changes.
Supervision - Assists in the supervision of 100+ part time staff. Aides in the hiring, training, and scheduling of 12-14 Aquatic Worker I’s , 4 Aquatic Event Leads, Program Staff 4-6 and 8-12 Event Staff. Assists with lifeguard and swim instructor certifications, which includes coordinating the certification classes and teaching students. Assists in training the graduate assistant in the areas of pool operations and event management.
Daily Operations - Coordinates the aquatic area schedule, which includes the schedule for HLKN, Athletics, Intramurals, and Sport Clubs. Coordinates user groups, events, programs, and Rec Swim. Maintains essential communication channels with user groups. Assists with the daily preparation of the pools, including chemical and mechanical operations. Serves as the liaison for Fusion Software and ensures that all programs are updated and working properly.
Budget - Provides input on Aquatic Events budget where appropriate. Assists in the tracking, administration, and presentation of annual budgets.
Technology - Responsible for all aquatic technology and software updates, including the Daktronics systems, Fusion Software, Pro Swim, Pro Dive, and E Dive. Collaborates with internal campus partners as well as external partners in the Brazos Valley.
Risk Management - Helps administer the risk management policies for all pool areas.
Department Mission Duties - Serves on national, university, divisional, and departmental committees as needed. Assists in establishing long and short-term goals of the department. Attends local, state, and national workshops and conferences. Hosts and presents at various workshops. Maintains positive relationships within department, other university departments, community and vendors. Assists other university staff members as requested. Interacts with students, faculty, and staff for the benefit of carrying out the mission of the department. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Four years’ experience in student affairs work or related specialty area with a bachelor’s degree
Two years’ experience in student affairs work or related specialty area with a master's degree
Required Licenses and Certifications: Lifeguard, First Aid, and CPR/AED certifications.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to supervise and evaluate employees
Ability to supervise, train, and coordinate event staff
Ability to plan, establish, and implement set up and take down for swim meets
Ability to keep accurate and up to date records
Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and/or data entry applications
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Certified Recreational Sports Specialist (NIRSA), SCUBA, LGIT, WSI, LGI, CPO, or AFO certifications
Minimum of two years supervisory experience, including at least one-year lifeguard experience and at least one-year swim meet management
Experience with pool chemical handling, lifeguard training and scheduling, pool mechanical systems, and Aquatic Event Management
Ability to collaborate with athletics to host high visibility swim meets such as NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving Championships
Ability to set up and take down, as well as troubleshoot and mitigate problems with timing and scoreboard systems
Budget preparation and administration experience

Salary: $51,750 annually (commensurate to selected hire's experience)
Position Details: Employee will supervise (12 to 14) Aquatic Worker I’s, (4) Aquatic Event Leads, (8 to 12) Event Staff, (4 to 6) Program Staff, and (100) Lifeguard staff. Requires some evening and weekend work. Attends meetings and conferences concerning students and with student groups at times beyond usual working hours
