The Jack Henry Digital Team is redefining the relationship between forward-thinking financial institutions and their customers. Jack Henry Digital leverages modern technology and an industry-leading product vision to make user-friendly mobile and web apps. We have a first-class API; the same API our web and mobile apps use is the same API that is open to the community to build on top of and extend.

The Senior Software Engineer participates and works with our team to build Jack Henry's next generation of services that power a set of critical domains. These services ultimately power Jack Henry's Open API and our online and mobile banking products. Jack Henry's APIs are first-class citizens and are consumed by both internal teams and organizations outside of Banno.

Senior Scala Software Engineer will be joining our Jack Henry Digital Team that is redefining the relationship between forward-thinking financial institutions and their customers. As a Senior Scala Software Engineer, you will get the chance to choose your own tools, work with bleeding edge web technologies across the stack, and contribute to products that are used by thousands of people. You will participate and work with our team to build JH Digital's next generation of services that power a set of critical domains. These services ultimately power JH Digital's Open API and our online and mobile banking products. JH Digital's APIs are first-class-citizens and are consumed by both internal teams and organizations outside of JH Digital. You want to own the deliverable from working with the product manager to define the scope all the way through supporting your work in production. This position will be filled to work Remotely within the U.S.

The target salary range for this position is $89,850- $195,250 based on location and experience.

What you'll be responsible for:

  • Complete product technical design and prototyping, software development, bug verification, and resolution.

  • Perform system analysis and programming activities that require research.

  • Provide technical/engineering support for new and existing applications from code delivery until the retirement of the application.

  • Provide reasonable task and project cost/effort estimates.

  • Collaboratively work with QA, TBA, and Product team to ensure timely delivery of high-quality products.

  • Collaboratively work with the customer support team to resolve or diagnose defects.

  • Building, testing, deploying, maintaining, and scaling backend services using Scala, relational databases (Postgres), event streaming (Kafka), and more.

  • Working with your engineering teams to identify needs, prioritize and plan work, and develop solutions that keep pace with product development.

  • Gaining a deep and comprehensive understanding of specific banking-related domains your team owns and working with and understanding how changes in those domains impact products.

  • A sense of ownership of your deliverables, from working with the product manager to define the scope, all the way through supporting your work in.

  • May perform other job duties as assigned.

    What you'll need to have:

  • Minimum 6 years of professional experience in software engineering.

  • Minimum of 3 years of back-end programming/development experience.

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience with Scala programming.

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in maintaining and supporting production systems.

  • Self-motivation and ability to work with independence.

  • Ability to travel up to 5% to attend JH meetings, trainings, and/or professional conferences.

    What would be nice for you to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science.

  • Experience with functional programming.

  • Experience using the Typelevel Stack (http4s, doobie, cats, cats-effect).

  • Experience working with Microservices Architecture.

  • Experience with Continuous Integration Pipelines.

  • Experience with observability and monitoring.

  • Experience with PostgreSQL or other relational databases.

  • Experience with Kafka and event-based systems.

  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes (PaaS/Container orchestration platform).
