National Park Service Recreation Fee Technician in United States

Summary These Recreation Fee Technician positions are located at: Carlsbad Caverns National Park and Guadalupe Mountains National Park. These are all permanent, full-time positions. Depending on location, there are year-round or Career-Seasonal schedules. Please see the Duties section for more detailed information about Career Seasonal schedules. Responsibilities These are all permanent, full-time positions, with one of two schedules - Year-round or Career-Seasonal, depending on the location. Career-Seasonal appointments include the same benefits as year-round appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. Here are the Career-Seasonal schedules for each of the National Parks listed on this announcement: Carlsbad Caverns National Park - If selected for a position at Carlsbad Caverns, you will work year round. Guadalupe Mountains National Park - You will work for approximately 24 pay periods, and will be in a non-pay status for up to 2 pay periods, scheduled in August, each year. Recreation Fee Clerk & Technician Standard Duties: Serve as a front-line, uniformed representative of the NPS, answering visitor questions and explaining the area's recreational opportunities, including NPS interpretive services, concession operated facilities and services, campground availability, hiking trails, etc. Perform assignments in accordance with all NPS and U.S. Treasury regulations governing the handling of government funds. Operate an electronic cash register, computer, or Point of Sale (POS) system to conduct financial transactions; perform opening and closing functions; issue entrance receipts, tour tickets, permits, etc. Inventory and/or restock fee program supplies and assist with placing orders and preparing requisition requests for equipment/supplies needed. Assist higher level personnel with auditing fee collection program components/systems (e.g. cash registers, road/trail registers, honor systems, automated fee machines or AFMs, donation boxes, etc.); assist in completing audit paperwork and documenting findings; communicate audit results to supervisor. Prepare and complete remittance reports and bank deposits for funds donated and/or collected by others. Review shift reports and count funds collected; Investigate and proactively resolve routine or recurring discrepancies, and track overages, shortages, and errors. Carlsbad Caverns Area Information: Carlsbad Caverns National Park is located 27 miles from the city of Carlsbad in southeastern New Mexico. The Park, at an elevation of 4400 feet, has a semi-arid climate with hot summers, mild winters, abundant sunshine, low humidity, and approximately 10 inches of rainfall per year. Carlsbad (population 29,000) has all amenities and services including medical and dental facilities, motels, banks, restaurants, churches, grocery stores, department stores, and several recreation facilities. Information about Carlsbad and the Carlsbad area can be found at the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce. Schools include K-12, and New Mexico State University - Carlsbad Campus. Other services can be found in Albuquerque (280 miles), El Paso, Texas (170 miles), Lubbock, Texas (180 miles), or Midland/Odessa, Texas (150 miles). Recreation opportunities are plentiful with Guadalupe Mountains National Park located 50 miles from the city of Carlsbad, two state parks (Brantley Lake and Living Desert Zoo), and the Lincoln National Forest within an hour's drive. Guadalupe Mountains Area Information: Guadalupe Mountains National Park is located in western Texas, 55 miles from Carlsbad, NM and 110 miles from El Paso, Texas. This is a remote park with the nearest community of Dell City (pop. 500), which has bus service for school grades K-12. The area has a semi-arid climate with warm summers, mild winters, abundant sunshine, low relative humidity and approximately 21 inches of rainfall per year. Grocery and department stores, hospitals, doctors, churches of most denominations, banks, motels, restaurants, and recreational facilities are found in Carlsbad, NM and in El Paso, TX. Recreation opportunities are plentiful with Carlsbad Caverns National Park located 2 miles from the city of Carlsbad, two state parks (Brantley Lake and Living Desert Zoo) and the Lincoln National Forest within an hour's drive. El Paso provides an abundance of recreation and cultural opportunities. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males. Complete the initial online assessment and USAHire Assessment, if required. Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. If you are a new employee in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period. You may be required to travel overnight away from home occasionally. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority. Qualifications All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-07/15/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of Recreation Fee Technician, GS-0503-05. Examples of specialized experience include: handling, tracking, or depositing monies; using software programs to maintain financial/accounting data (such as fee and stock data); performing fee collection, accounting or financial duties; or using tools or equipment (e.g., cash registers, calculators, etc.) to make sales transactions; ensuring accountability of funds and accurate financial records. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Four years of education above high school (120 semester hours or 180 quarter hours) from an accredited institution. NOTE: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. You must include transcripts. -OR- Equivalent combination of experience and education that, together, equal 100% of the qualification standards listed above when combined. NOTE: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. You must include transcripts. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Education To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work. If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
