Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct independent and collaborative research on plant-based polymers with a focus on their structure, functionality, and application in food systems.

  • Develop and optimize processing methods for plant proteins to enhance their properties for use in food products.

  • Characterize plant protein-based materials using advanced analytical techniques (e.g., rheology, spectroscopy, microscopy).

  • Investigate the interactions between plant proteins and animal cells to improve texture, stability, and nutritional quality.

  • Design and perform experiments to evaluate the sensory, nutritional, and functional properties of hybrid-based food prototypes.

  • Prepare and publish high-quality research articles in peer-reviewed journals.

  • Present research findings at national and international conferences.

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including food scientists, chemists, and engineers.

  • Supervise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students involved in related research projects.

  • Assist in writing grant proposals to secure research funding.

  • Other duties as required.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Ph.D. in Food Science, Food Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.

Preferred Experience:

  • Strong background in plant protein chemistry and functionality.

  • Experience with polymer science and engineering principles applied to food systems.

  • Experience with food extrusion, texturization, emulsions, or other relevant food processing technologies.

  • Experience in writing successful papers and grant proposals.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in advanced analytical techniques for material characterization.

  • Ability to conduct high-quality research, as evidenced by a strong publication record.

  • Experience in supervising and mentoring students.

  • Knowledge of sustainable food production and plant-based food trends.

  • Familiarity with computational modeling of protein structures and interactions.
