Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Nuclear Safety and Reliability Analysis Postdoctoral Research Associate to work in our Risk Phenomena Modeling department. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Engendering Research Office Building facility with every other Friday off. Hybrid work opportunities may be available for this position.

You will perform research and applied studies in artificial intelligence (AI), generative AI, Large Language Models (LLM) in nuclear safety and reliability analysis. The research projects will focus on developing novel methodologies for using generative AI in nuclear safety, reliability analysis and risk assessment. The research projects would involve training, verification, validation, performance assessment and comparative analysis of generative AI algorithms for nuclear safety and reliability applications.

You'll work with a team of dynamic researchers across different domains of expertise in the nuclear industry and generative AI. You are expected to demonstrate research leadership that would allow you to take your own research path and take ownership of projects.

We ask that you have effective research skills, the ability to collaborate and partner with other government agencies, academia, and private sector companies to achieve project goals; the ability to work with a versatile team of scientists and engineers on challenging work scope, communicating both verbally and in writing with management, co-workers, and with customers; publish results of research and development in a mix of refereed publications and conference proceedings; work with other research teams to develop cross-cutting technical programs for a variety of customers; write and contribute to proposals to the U.S. Department of Energy and to internal Laboratory research and development funding opportunities.

*Minimum Requirements: *

  • Earned a PhD in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, or related fields within the last 5 years.

  • Strong publication record in reputable journals and reputed conference proceedings in any of the following related areas: nuclear engineering, artificial intelligence, large language models, machine learning is required.

  • Strong programming skills in Python, Matlab or other relevant software is a MUST.

    Theoretical and practical knowledge of nuclear engineering, and safety and reliability modeling and analysis would be considered.

  • Research experience with large language models would be considered.

  • Salary: $96,900 Annually
