Summary What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position? This is a term appointment not to exceed 13 months with possible extensions up to a total of 4 years without further competition. Appointment to this position will not convey permanent status in the Federal service. Summary Continued in Duties Section Responsibilities As a Hydrologic Technician within the Lower Mississippi-Gulf Water Science Center, some of your specific duties will include: Work closely with other team members in office, field, or shop settings to accomplish simple tasks. Utilize one or more computer systems and automated databases to enter, transfer, or retrieve information. Carry out labor intensive tasks safely. Carry out simple tasks when given instructions. Work under direct supervision of a Field Operations Chief or an experience Hydrologic Technician. Summary Continued Salary: GS-02: $34,803 (Step 01) to $41,985 (Step 10); GS-03: $35,499 (Step 01) to $43,590 (Step 10) NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01. Are There Any Special Requirements For This Position? Because this position requires travel for official business, the selectee will be required to apply for a charge card within 30 calendar days of appointment. Individuals who have delinquent account balances from a previous Government charge card will be required to satisfy their existing obligation before a new card can be issued. A background investigation will be required for this position. Continued employment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for termination. Qualifications For GS-02: Applicants must meet one of the following to qualify for the GS-2 level: Three months of experience of any kind that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position; *OR experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation *OR high school graduation or the equivalent. For GS-03: Applicants must meet one of the following to qualify for the GS-3 level: Six months of general experience of any kind that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position or that has provided the applicant with a general knowledge of hydrologic practices and procedures; *OR one full year of successfully completed education above the high school level that included at least one course in subjects such as engineering, industrial technology, construction drafting, surveying, physical science, biology, or mathematics. *OR a combination of post-high school education and general experience that together equates to 100% of the qualification requirement. Education completed in colleges or universities outside the United States may be used to meet the above requirements.
