Xylem Cost Estimating Engineer in United States

Position Summary

Xylem is hiring for an Engineering Estimator to be based at any of our locations in the United States. In this role, you will be responsible for configuration of cost estimates for highly engineered water treatment system proposals supporting Process Water and Wastewater applications. The individual will collaborate with the following groups: Applications Engineering, Project Sourcing, Order Execution, Product Managers and Project Management to establish the costing strategy. You will also be responsible for maintaining the costing models and investigating negative / positive cost corrections (NCC/PCC) and be accountable to hold executed cost variances to an acceptable low level for the business.

Core Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Work with Applications Engineering and Project Sourcing to identify costing strategy, which includes who will be getting the vendor quotes and what will be vendor quoted.

  • Maintain & train on the costing tools, primarily SCAT (Summary Costing & Application Template), developed in Excel.

  • Monitor the accuracy of current costing models and adjust costing models accordingly.

  • Advise on estimates for all conceptual/budgetary and firm <$250K proposals where needed by the Applications Engineer.

  • Review SCAT on all Firm proposals >$250K and verifying costing basis is within company guidelines for cost source and timing.

  • Own SCAT development and information for all Firm proposals over $1M.

  • Verify Field Service Engineer, Order Execution Engineers, Project Managers and Sourcing alignment on costing.

  • Identify risks on projects in regards to being cost competitive or incurring NCCs.

  • Partner with manufacturing, vendors, procurement, and installation team to reduce material and subcontracting cost estimates.

  • Regularly meet with Project Sourcing to monitor material cost trends and provide guidance to the AE teams on latest material trends .

  • Regularly meet with Order Execution, Project Management, and Manufacturing to ensure costing methodology matches execution capabilities.

  • Regularly meet with Product Management to understand the latest development efforts on products and incorporate into costing methodology.

  • Set up and monitor metrics to evaluate costing methods meet execution capabilities and measure quality of a SCAT.

  • Responsible for reviewing NCC/PCC data, advising on claims data integrity, root cause and corrective action on all NCCs $20K and up identified as caused during the proposal phase

  • Responsible for implementing corrective actions around material costing and Order Execution labor from claims.

  • Attend Project Kick-off meetings.

Position Requirements

FORMAL EDUCATION:

  • Requires BS/BA degree in Engineering

  • 5-10 years of experience as an Estimating Engineer

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

  • Deep knowledge of costing tools (Excel) and data sources (SAP).

  • Working knowledge of engineering/design principles.

  • Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment product specifications and features including design/manufacturing principles.

  • Familiarity with competitor products.

  • Deep knowledge of pre-sales process.

  • Knowledge of order execution process.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: 10%

TARGET SALARY RANGE: 80,000-100,000k
