Job Summary

Under general direction, is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the audio/video production needs of the Convention Sports and Entertainment Facilities Department. Exercises supervision over assigned staff.

900 E. Market St.

Work Schedule

8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; Monday - Friday

Schedules will vary with shifts being subject to change due to events and business needs, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holiday shift work schedules.

Essential Job Functions

  • Coordinates the audio/video production assignments requested of the External Relations Department.

  • Designs, directs, and produces audio/video productions of broadcast quality for public presentation or local distribution.

  • Operates professional/commercial video camera/recorder and/or still camera in recording live events and programs at times lifting/carrying up to 25 pounds of equipment.

  • When working at special City events, may need to stand, reach, while handling equipment, or climb, twist while videotaping.

  • Supervises and instructs technical staff in the operation of audio/video production equipment.

  • Troubleshoots problems related to audio/video production assignments.

  • Schedules work hours and workloads of the audio/video staff, communicating with staff by various means including directly or electronically.

  • Confers with the Communications Manager in regards to assignments and best methods of accomplishing tasks.

  • Responsible for the library and indexing of film footage and still photos from City programs, meeting, and events, using office equipment.

  • Coordinates audio/video equipment or facility needs with outside agencies for video shoots.

  • Researches the audio/video needs of the department by evaluating existing equipment and then making recommendations.

  • Coordinates delivery of audio/video production service or equipment from outside vendor.

  • Maintains log of productions along with estimated costs for budgetary purposes.

  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Job Requirements

  • Equivalent to an Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university with preferable coursework in Electronics, Radio/Television, or a related field.

  • Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in audio/video production experience.

  • Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Coursework in Communications, Audio/Visual Editing, or other related fields.

  • Experience editing and developing social media content for various platforms.

  • Experience with communications, audio/video editing.

  • Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

  • Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of audio/video production techniques, procedures and methods.

  • Knowledge of audio/video production equipment.

  • Knowledge of video photography and editing equipment.

  • Knowledge of audio/video storage and categorizing techniques and methods.

  • Knowledge of video equipment maintenance requirements.

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of budget preparation.

  • Skill in operating office equipment and utilizing rudimentary software.

  • Ability to design, direct, and produce broadcast quality video programs.

  • Ability to supervise, train, and evaluate staff

  • Ability to operate various audio/video equipment to include 1/2" and 3/4" video cameras, professional 35mm camera, and related editing equipment.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the general public.

  • Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodations.

  • Working conditions are inside an office or photography environment.
