Job Description:

The Communication Trainee, operating under the mentorship of the Communications Specialist and based in Peshawar with occasional visits to the Islamabad Office or various project locations, will partake in a comprehensive training program. This program is designed with clear objectives to highlight the support provided by USAID's infrastructure projects in Pakistan. The trainee will engage in various tasks to enhance the program's communication efforts, in compliance with CDM Smith and USAID guidelines. Trainees will be engaged as independent consultants. The training program will have a fixed duration of one year for this cohort.

Key activities include:

▬ Write, edit, and proofread branding documents, reports, summaries, and briefs.

▬ Assist in planning and managing program events.

▬ Attend meetings, prepare minutes, and conduct follow-ups.

▬ Conduct desktop and field research for document preparation.

▬ Create and archive photos and videos, where permitted.

▬ Perform administrative and coordination duties as assigned.

▬ Visit project sites as required.

General Responsibilities

Working under the supervision of the Project's Communications Specialist, the Communication Trainee's duties include:

▬ Assisting in executing the Project’s Branding and Marking Plan.

▬ Supporting report writing, editing, proofreading, and formatting.

▬ Providing coordination and administrative support for event management.

▬ Analyzing data for communication content preparation.

▬ Assisting in preparing presentations and coordinating meetings.

▬ Coordinating multilaterally for data collection and management.

▬ Participating in meetings, taking minutes, and conducting follow-ups.

▬ Conducting photography and videography, including archiving of media.

▬ Maintaining and updating media lists.

▬ Adhering to professional ethics, rules, and procedures.

Equipment Used

▬ Personal computer, other standard office equipment.

Physical Working Conditions

▬ Based in Peshawar office, with intermittent travel to Islamabad and project sites in Pakistan including areas in FATA, and government offices as and when needed.

Physical Effort

▬ Light physical effort required by handling objects up to 20 pounds occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently.

Minimum Qualifications:

▬ Recent graduate with BS/MS degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, or Media Studies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Ability Requirements

▬ Proficient in MS Office and design software such as Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, etc.

▬ Comprehensive understanding of both conventional and digital media, along with media relations.

▬ Excellent command of English, including writing, proofreading, and editing capabilities.

▬ Strong research and analytical skills.

▬ Effective verbal and written communication skills.

▬ Outstanding time-management and organizational abilities.

▬ Skilled in event management and coordination.

▬ Attention to detail with a problem-solving mindset.

▬ Capable of multitasking and managing time efficiently.
