Vectrus School Counselor in Marshall Islands

Overview

This position will be physically located in The Marshall Islands in support of LOGCAP

The School Counselor promotes student success, provides preventive services and responds to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses academic, career, and personal/ social development for all students.

Responsibilities

This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company.

  • Plans, develops, and implements all guidance programs in cooperation with the School Superintendent and Building Principal

  • Counsels students individually and in small groups from K-12th grades

  • Implements and interprets for students, faculty, and parents evaluative appraisals of students

  • Assists in the programming, record keeping, placement and discharge of students

  • Develops a positive working relationship with other support service personnel to identify problems, share information and design programs

  • Provides college counseling and support for students and parents in the college search and application process

  • Provide career support for students who seek a career or military path immediately following graduation

  • Designs and implements a program of educational and vocational information

  • Performs other related duties as assigned

  • Engages with families and builds collaborative, respectful relationships with them in service of student learning

  • Consistently provides parents with clear expectations for student learning behavior and/or wellness and shares strategies to promote learning and development at school and home

  • Regularly provides advice and expertise to general education teachers and the school community to support the creation of appropriate and effective academic, behavioral, and social/emotional learning experiences for students

  • Must participate in professional development activities as necessary to maintain licensure.

  • Instruction in the classroom will be commensurate with the school’s stated philosophy, objectives and purposes.

  • Sets ambitious learning goals for all students, uses instructional and clinical practices that reflect high expectations for students and student work; engages all students in learning

  • Consistently defines high expectations for student learning goals and behavior

  • Assesses student learning regularly using a variety of assessments to measure growth, and understanding

  • Effectively analyzes data from assessments, draws conclusions, and shares them appropriately

  • Exhibits strong knowledge of child development and how students learn and behave, and designs effective and rigorous plans for support with measurable outcomes

  • Demonstrates knowledge of students’ developmental levels by providing differentiated learning experiences and support that enable all students to progress toward intended outcomes

  • Working knowledge necessary to establish the foundations of a school counseling program aligning with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Requirements

  • Master's Degree in educational guidance and counseling, or a master's degree with a minimum of 30 SH of graduate course work well distributed over the areas of guidance and counseling with practical application to programs and practices in a PreK-12 school setting is required.

  • Course work must include guidance and counseling in the elementary, middle or secondary school (PreK-12); legal and ethical issues in counseling; counseling children and adolescents; administration and interpretation of tests; career counseling; and drug education. Additionally, a practicum/internship in PreK-12 school guidance and counseling is required. A second category is not required.

  • 2 years successful K-12 teaching experience preferably in DoDES school system

  • Must have ability to obtain and maintain a Child Care National Agency Check (CNACI) clearance requiring US Citizenship or Permanent Residency

  • Must have ability to obtain passport or Current Passport

  • Preferred Qualifications

  • School Guidance Counselor License at the appropriate level desired.

  • Experience working with OCONUS School environments preferred

  • Experience with Association of Schools and Colleges (SACs) accreditation preferred

  • Working Conditions:

  • The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.

  • Physical Requirements:

  • Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.

  • Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
