NOTE: This vacancy is being announced at two different job classes at the same time: Engineer Senior and Engineer 2 Graduate. The final class and starting salary of this position is dependent on the successful applicant’s qualifications. Only one position will be filled.

The primary purpose of this position is to administer assigned construction projects by accomplishing required construction engineering and contract administration duties and by supervising MnDOT employees that are assigned to assist the Engineer in contract administration. In addition, the Project Engineer will be responsible for design engineering and supervision of road plan preparation in the winter, and also supervising the finalization of construction projects in accordance with established policies, regulations and guidelines.
This position is in Virginia Contract Admin (Construction) and the reporting location is Virginia, MN. This position will have the option for a hybrid telework schedule. The employee will be required to complete a telework agreement.
Minimum Qualifications
Engineer Senior:
To qualify for Engineer Senior, applicants must meet all the following:
Licensure as a professional Civil Engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience, and Interior Design (AELSLAGID). (If obtaining licensure through Comity, a temporary permit from AELSLAGID must be provided to MnDOT HR prior to starting employment.)
Valid Class D Driver’s License.
Engineer 2 Graduate:
To qualify for Engineer 2 Graduate, applicants must meet all the following:
A Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Construction Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university or its equivalency as rated by NCEES/EAC.
A passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
Two years post-graduation civil engineering work.
Valid Class D Driver’s License
OR
- Received a passing score on the Minnesota Principals & Practices of Civil Engineering (PE) Exam.
NOTE:
- A master’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university substitutes for one year of post-graduate civil engineering work.
In addition to the preceding minimum qualifications, you will be assessed on the following during an interview:
Human relations skills sufficient to develop and maintain effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
Oral and written communication skills sufficient to communicate complex, technical information to diverse audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge and experience in principles of traffic, soils, and highway drainage engineering.
Knowledge of MnDOT policies, procedures and state and federal rules and regulations.
Plan reading ability.
Highway construction experience.
Negotiation skills.
