Tax Services is a department within TD Wealth Private Trust, a key business unit within TD Wealth Private Wealth Management, which provides tax return preparation and planning for estates and trusts, high net worth individuals and their families. Tax Services also provides bookkeeping and corporate tax services for clients with investment holding companies.

Job Description:

Reporting to the Manager of Operations, with operational oversight by the Tax Manager(s), the Tax Analyst is primarily responsible for providing the tax administrative support to assigned CPAs throughout the year. The position also entails preparing personal (T1) and trust (T3) tax returns for a section of assigned clients during busy season.

This role requires you to be on site at our TD Tower, Pacific Centre office location in Vancouver BC, Monday to Friday (37.5 hours a week) and may include working paid overtime of up to 10.5 hours/week, during the very fast paced Trust and Personal Tax Filing Season (March & April).

We offer a flexible work environment outside of tax season for education and study leave.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Preparing T1 and T3 income tax returns in a timely and accurate manner, as assigned.

  • Collating (electronic and paper) all personal, trust and corporate tax returns by the filing deadlines, including arranging for delivery to government authorities and clients via TD eSign.

  • Applying for Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) access and new Trust (T3) account numbers online.

  • Reviewing tax notices of assessment for changes and filing in the client folder.

  • Ensuring all tax correspondence for assigned clients is actioned or escalated to a CPA, as appropriate.

  • Scanning in hard copy documents and filing for tax files throughout the year, including busy season.

  • Preparing tax disbursements requests to ensure accurate and paid on time.

  • Ensuring the personal tax instalment list is reviewed quarterly and amounts are accurate.

  • Preparing forms to arrange for the deposit of cheques into designated accounts.

  • Contacting client or internal partner for missing information required.

  • Staying abreast of tax developments (CCH updates, LMS modules, etc.)

  • Maintaining a good working relationship with all internal partners and clients for assigned files.

  • Performing other duties and special projects as assigned.

  • Performing tax administrative duties in the absence of the tax administrator (processing tax fees, payments, monitoring generic inbox, etc.)

Education/Accreditations:

  • Undergraduate Degree

  • Enrollment and/or working towards CPA Professional Education Program (CPA PEP) and working towards (CPA) designation.

Other Qualifications/Skills/Experience:

  • Recent experience in a professional tax services environment (i.e., tax services company, trust company or public accounting firm) preparing trust (T3) and personal (T1) income tax returns.

  • Proficient with CCH TaxPrep software, Caseware and CRA Represent a Client system.

  • Strong computer skills, experience with MS Office and Adobe Professional.

  • Effective time management, organizational, and communication skills (oral and written).

  • Fluency in English and French, preferred.
