Job Description

Senior Manager - Public Affairs, Global HIV Therapeutic Area Communications and Advocacy

This role will be office based in Stockley Park, Uxbridge, United Kingdom.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Public Affairs, Global HIV Treatment, this role will assist in the development and implementation of global campaigns and initiatives supporting Gilead’s current product portfolio of HIV treatment medications.

The role is responsible for helping to drive branded and unbranded communications relating to the HIV treatment portfolio across a broad range of audiences, raising awareness of unmet medical, systemic, and social needs that our science and programs seek to address, and communicating progress against these goals. This role works closely with cross-functional colleagues in Global Commercial Strategy & Operations, Clinical Development, Virology Research, Value & Access, Medical Affairs, Government Affairs and Policy. This role will also engage colleagues across Public Affairs’ global centres of expertise and regional and country teams to help inform cross-functional priorities from a global perspective and drive tailored implementation at a local level.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners and across geographies to inform the development and implementation of a global communications strategy to help expand access to Gilead’s current HIV treatment product portfolio.

  • Serve as a key strategic communications advisor to the HIV treatment commercialization team.

  • Drive development of communications strategies, programs, and materials to support the current HIV treatment product portfolio.

  • Contribute to corporate storytelling related to Gilead’s impact in HIV treatment across external and internal channels.

  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of issues relevant to Gilead’s HIV treatment portfolio ensuring that talking points and key message documents are updated and disseminated among internal and external audiences in a timely, proactive manner.

  • Support Global HIV Advocacy in efforts to engage global community leaders to ensure perspective of key populations are integrated into Gilead XF treatment initiatives, and ensure community has developing understanding of Gilead priorities.

  • Support Global HIV Advocacy in regular engagements with community advisory boards covering pipeline and existing products and treatment, and in development of global community meetings and congresses with advocates. Collaborate on programs related to HIV in other Public Affairs and Government Affairs centres of expertise, including corporate communications, community engagement, corporate giving, and policy. Programs may include corporate advertising, corporate website and intranet content development, advocacy group engagement, funding opportunity announcements, among others.

  • Partner with the Corporate media relations team to shape reporting on Gilead’s HIV treatment product portfolio approach to access.

  • Liaise with PR agency partners, providing agency teams with appropriate information and oversight to effectively implement programs in compliance with Gilead’s business conduct policies

  • Manage the submission, review, and approval of all materials through Gilead’s Global review committee process

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

  • Typically requires a BA/BSc/MSc or equivalent in communications, liberal arts, business or science-oriented field with relevant experience which includes healthcare public relations experience.

  • Prior experience in HIV communications, advocacy, government affairs, marketing or medical affairs and a passion for HIV is strongly preferred.

  • Proven experience in driving product communications that support business priorities

  • Global or pan-European experience required

  • Understanding of the diverse needs of the global HIV community

  • Experience interfacing with global and regional advocates and comfort in partnering with organizations serving the key populations of the HIV epidemic.

  • Experience with communication tactics and resources and the relationship of those tactics to other department roles and functions, including Marketing, Medical Affairs, Market Access and Government Affairs

  • Ability to understand and accurately communicate complex science

  • Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare and industry media and reporting trends

  • Experience managing multiple projects (timelines, budgets, priorities) simultaneously; flexibility and results-oriented focus are essential

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and to given formal presentations to external and internal audiences of various sizes

  • Fluency in English

  • Ability to interact with high-profile experts appropriately, with confidence and ease

  • Ability to influence others and drive alignment across diverse teams

  • Demonstrated knowledge of regulations governing communications for a publicly-traded biopharmaceutical company
