    Position Summary:

    The Unit Assistant provides clerical support in the Emergency Department. Facilitates communication with other departments, visitors, patients, medical staff and employees. Serves as a public relations liaison for the unit.

    Qualifications:

    EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS High School Diploma/Equivalent CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS None specified

    Essential Functions:

  • Answers all incoming phone calls for the ED

  • Manages admits and discharges from the EPIC computer system

  • Completes data tracking for EKGs and Tele boxes

  • Liasion/collaborates between outside facilities, nursing staff, and physicians

  • Maintains office supplies throughout nurses stations

  • Completes and maintains misc. paperwork for ED staff

  • Schedules non emergent transport for patients

  • Effectively facilitates communication for the unit with all hospital and clinic departments. Answers the phone, informs nursing staff of needed tests, exams or significant problems with patients on the nursing unit. Serves as liaison between nursing units and physicians, patients, their families and friends.

  • Initiates daily Level 1 Trauma and Medical alert system testing.

  • Sends and recieves items through the tube system

  • Submits work orders and places broken euipment in appropriate locations.
