JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State University Park is seeking a dynamic, student-centered professional to serve as the next Assistant Director for Welcome Programs within Student Orientation and Transition Programs (SOTP). SOTP is a partnership between Student Affairs and Undergraduate Education charged with the delivery of university- and campus-wide orientation and transition programs for undergraduate students. This position is located at the University Park campus.

The Assistant Director for Welcome Programs will have responsibilities to aid in the development, implementation, and logistical support for New Student Orientation (NSO) which welcomes over 9,000 new students to University Park each summer. This person serves as a member of the NSO Director Team which rotates responsibility for responding to and resolving student and family issues and concerns as they arise during NSO programming, facilitating the program, and giving presentations. Additionally, this person provides support and training to our undergraduate student staff comprised of paid and volunteer roles.

Additionally, the Assistant Director for Welcome Programs will provide leadership for the development and implementation of welcome programs for Penn State University Park including Summer Welcome, Fall Welcome, and Spring Welcome, annual diversity & inclusion events, and other campus and community-wide programming efforts.

The successful candidate will have strong knowledge of orientation and transition programs, student development theory, best practices in student leader development training, and event management. The successful candidate will demonstrate the following skills:

  • teamwork

  • experience working with diverse population

    This position requires evening and weekend work, especially in the summer months. An opportunity for flexible work arrangements, including remote work once or twice per week, is a possibility.

    Education Requirements

    This position typically requires a Master’s degree plus one year of professional experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A degree in higher education or student development is preferred.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$51,000.00 - $74,000.00
