JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Department of Campus Recreation is seeking to fill the position of New Student Orientation (NSO) Facilitator. This position is responsible for facilitating activities for incoming first year students as part of the New Student Orientation “After Dark” program. This position serves a key role in Campus Recreation’s efforts to inspire a healthy, engaged, and inclusive Penn State community by welcoming all incoming students to take advantage of Campus Recreation’s programs, services, and facilities. Candidates should have a passion for working with people in a dynamic environment. No prior experience is required, though experience engaging in or working in Campus Recreation is preferred.

Duties & Responsibilities include but may not be limited to:

  • Preparing for and facilitating activities with students including, but not limited to, bubble soccer, archery tag, minute-to-win-it type games, basketball, volleyball, and bouldering.

  • Setting up all necessary equipment for activities and ensure that areas are visually and functionally ready for engagement.

  • Engaging students through 1:1 and group conversations (and be able to speak about Campus Recreation programs, services, and facilities).

  • Communicating activity rules and guidelines.

  • Monitoring for potential risk management issues.

  • Breaking down and cleaning up of activities on a nightly basis.

    NSO Facilitators will be expected to work 12-15 evenings (Sunday-Thursday, 9-11pm) throughout the NSO program season (May 25th – July 20th) as well as a mandatory training on May 21, 2023 (4-6 hours).

Campus Recreation is a department within Student Affairs that provides fitness, wellbeing, and recreational programs to the campus community through the operation and administration of the Intramural Building, the McCoy Natatorium, the 700-acre Stone Valley Outdoor Recreation Area, a Tennis Center including six clay courts and four indoor courts, the White Building, Outdoor Adventures, Aquatic Programs, Club Sports, Fitness and Wellbeing Programs, and Intramural Sports.
