JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State College of Agriculture is searching for a full time Farm Machinery Operator C to join their team. Duties include:

  • Operate passenger bus on and off campus

  • Transport students and others on scheduled and nonscheduled runs such as field trips, farm locations, etc. as assigned

  • Check mechanical condition of bus before, during and after operation

  • Report needed maintenance to supervisor

  • Clean inside of bus daily and as needed during operations

  • Operate tractors and equipment between and on University Farms to spread manure and fertilizer, harrow, disk, mow, rake, ted, and cultivate

  • Operate trucks and hand tools to load, transport, unload, weigh and store supplies, materials, fertilizer, pesticides, seeds, and crops, such as hay, straw, silage, etc.

  • Measure, mix and apply pesticides as required

  • Unload silage from trailers to blower in silo filling operation, and level silage as required

  • Operate pneumatic grain-handling system as needed

  • Grease, check oil, gas, water and tires, etc., and make minor adjustments to tractors and equipment being operated

  • Report needed repairs to supervisor

  • Daily record gas, oil, and operation information in tractor log

  • Assist in assembly, minor repair and painting of equipment

  • Assist in minor maintenance and repair of farm buildings and facilities

  • Perform clean-up duties in and around farm buildings and fields, such as trimming hedgerows, removing stones from croplands, etc.

Job Requirements: Requires the use of commercial English, grammar and arithmetic such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, including decimals and fractions; simple use of formulas, charts, tables, drawings, specifications, schedules, wiring diagrams, together with the use of adjustable measuring instruments, graduates and the like requiring interpretation in their various applications; or the posting, preparation, interpretation, use and checking of reports, forms, records and comparable data. Requires a Pennsylvania Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class B with Passenger Endorsement (P); without Air Brake Restriction (L), upon hire. Requires a Hazardous Materials (H), Tank (N), and Category 18 Pennsylvania Pesticide Applicators License; or must be acquired within 90 days of hire. 6 - 12 months of effective experience.

Work Schedule: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Days Off: Saturday, Sunday

A VALID DRIVER`S LICENSE AND SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF A MOTOR VEHICLE RECORDS CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED IN ADDITION TO STANDARD BACKGROUND CHECKS. NOTE: THIS POSITION IS SUBJECT TO FEDERAL DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TESTING FOR ALCOHOL AND CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES (49 CFR PART 40), AND PHYSICAL EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS AS PER PA CODE 231.85. NOTE: EMPLOYEE MUST BE ABLE TO WEAR A RESPIRATOR AND WILL BE SUBJECT TO MEDICAL CLEARANCE.
