Job Description

Join our dedicated team as a Phlebotomist I, where you will perform various duties including blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, and decontamination. You will update patient information, collect and store specimens in accordance with established procedures, and explain the process of venipuncture or other specimen collection clearly and courteously. Your role will also involve demonstrating techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles, understanding physicians' orders, matching laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing specimens as required by test orders. You will ensure all test requisitions are correct, package specimens for transport, store samples according to required temperatures, and follow specific protocols to maintain the integrity of the specimen. Additionally, you will comply with OSHA and DEP regulations, attend annual department trainings, and handle telephone inquiries by reading laboratory results.

Hard Skills

  • Valid Phlebotomy certification (as required in some states)

  • Minimum of 6 months’ experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Soft Skills

  • Ability to clearly explain and demonstrate procedures

  • Attention to detail

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
