Data Network Infrastructure Design Lead Direct Hire

Overview As a Data Network Infrastructure Design Lead, your primary responsibilities will be to coordinate with the client and the project design team for IT room locations, raceways, backbone and horizontal cabling, and network cable and fiber optic termination details. The objective is to provide the client's IT department with the necessary infrastructure for their project needs. In conjunction with your design, you will need to collaborate with our architects for IT room floor plans, the mechanical department for IT room HVAC needs, the electrical department for power needed for the IT equipment, and the civil discipline for the site network and outside plant infrastructure. It is also expected of you to represent and be the point of contact for the project in the aspect of fire alarm and security system design. Unless experienced, you will not be responsible for designing the fire alarm or security systems, however you will be asked to represent the Data/Fire/Security department in the project meetings and throughout the project.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in Data/Fire/Security (Client) department collaboration meetings to provide your project(s) status, budget updates, and projected workloads.
  • Review and comprehend the Client scope of work in client's request for proposal (RFP).
  • Assist the project manager in writing the Client section of a narrative and estimate the number of hours it will take to complete the project for the proposal.
  • Attend and participate in project coordination meetings. Collaborating with the client and the other SSOE design leads for the data network, fire alarm, and security system needs.
  • Evaluate, select, and apply methods and techniques to the data network design.
  • Coordinate and assist the fire alarm and security designer with project specific details.
  • Remain flexible throughout the project and assist the project manager and client with various value engineering methods.
  • Coordinates with the project modeler and direct the work effort of the design.
  • Check your own work as well as the modelers before handing the design over to the quality checker for review.
  • Perform peer review and serve as checker of team member projects.
  • Collaborate with the quality checker so that they understand the scope of work of the project as well as your design.
  • Write and or edit portions of the necessary communication specifications.
  • Prepare addendums and bulletins as changes occur in the project.
  • Assist the project manager in identifying scope of work changes, followed by filling out the paperwork needed for the fee change.
  • Attend construction meetings and produce site observation reports and final punch list. May troubleshoot design problems in the field during construction.
  • Review shop drawings: check to ensure that the intent of the design has been captured in the vendor drawings and specifications.
  • May be requested to attend training to develop supervisory skills.
  • May serve as job captain on single-discipline projects.
  • Understand and use varying codes and standards required for system design.
  • Travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification from BICSI is preferred.
  • Outside Plant Designer (OSP) certification from BICSI is preferred.
  • Familiarity with BICSI and ANSI/TIA standards.
  • 5 years of related designer experience with former employer(s).
  • Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and/or REVIT experience preferred.
  • A valid driver's license is required. May be waived for international assignments.
