Summary & Qualifications:

Summary

The position directs the Systems and LAN Management and Telephone Operations teams in creating and maintaining a reliable, efficient, secure, and sustainable technology environment. This position works with all NMC departments and is responsible for the management of all computing systems, network-attached printing, network servers (physical and virtual) for instructional and administrative uses, institution-wide data storage and backup system, network firewalls, switches, and wireless infrastructure, as well as the wide area network and VoIP telephony. This position also serves as the Chief IT Security Officer and is responsible for critical College communications about updates, events, and security issues.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in IT related field (Required)

Between 5-10 years of related experience (Required) 2+ years of management experience (Required)

Essential Responsibilities

• (Critical) Supervises others in accordance with NMC's policies and applicable Federal and state laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance rewards, and recognizing employees addressing performance problems and gaps or development opportunities.

• (Critical) Manages IT operations for 5 campus locations, including specialty technology services for the Great Lakes Maritime Academy training ship, Water Studies research vessel, Aviation program, and the Observatory.

• (Critical) Leads the planning, budgeting, coordination, and implementation of desktop computing and network services and technologies in a highly complex and diverse centrally provided IT environment.

• (Critical) Manages the contract management, negotiation, and renewal for different hardware, software, hosted systems, and services.

• (Critical) Advises and manages the technology needs for new construction and existing building renovation projects.

• (Critical) Serves as the IT contact and liaison for h other departments to identify needs, and requirements, and to evaluate projects to determine how Systems and LAN Management and Telephone Operations can provide support.

• (Critical) Creates and manages Request for Proposal (RFP) for major technology-based purchases.

• (Critical) Oversees and manages lifecycle replacement of technology infrastructure, including employee and student devices, printers and copiers, network servers, network storage, cloud and offsite storage, cloud-hosted services, network and wireless connectivity, firewalls, VoIP, security cameras, door access controls, and campus outdoor LED signs.

• (Critical) Evaluates long-term institutional information needs for hardware and software acquisition and integration, and coordinates long-term planning to ensure network capacity that meets current and future network requirements.

• (Critical) Prepares and manages the department's budget to ensure department budget planning and business plan development efficiently utilizes the financial resources of the college and promotes innovation in the department. Manages and monitors the institutional Technology budget used for major institutional technology purchases.
