Honeywell Lead Electrical Systems Engineer in Torrance, California

Support Honeywell Aerospace Technologies to deliver innovative solutions that meet the evolving needs of customers. You will work under limited supervision and alongside some of the world's most talented engineers. You will contribute to the development of Honeywell's next generation (product) by designing, testing and validating products/processes from prototype to market. You will be part of a group of highly committed professionals who provide expertise to ensure the success of complex electrical systems engineering projects and programs while acting as a mentor to more junior engineers. You will interact with internal and external customers in order to facilitate the completion of electric drive products to customer specifications.

Provides Lead Electrical Systems engineering function for Electric Drive Systems in Torrance, California

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Designs, tests, installs, and maintains electro-mechanical motor controllers, actuation controllers, and electric drive systems for use in aircraft applications

  • Leads electrical systems engineering support for integration of Electric Drive Systems, motor controllers, power generation systems and actuator controller applications for aircraft. Must be able to work either independently or as a part of a team to develop and execute Electric Drive Systems technology for projects.

  • Performs as a key player for motor controller systems design, requirements flow down, and simulations of systems to meet department objectives. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Executes plans to implement electrical systems solutions.

  • May use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform assignments including functional hardware verification and test rig set up and checkout.

  • Applies principles and techniques of electrical systems engineering to accomplish goals.

  • Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures such as actuation control, motor control, power regulation and rectification, and related electric drive systems knowledge.

  • Must be able to lead a group of electrical engineers on a project to accomplish successful execution of electric drive systems designs including integration, verification of systems requirements, and validation of system functionality. Typically leads the electrical systems design function, makes assignments for his/her team’s work, and coordinates systems resources.

  • Supports systems level bid and proposal efforts, including adapting existing motor controller, actuator controller, and electric drive system designs to new applications.

  • Hands-on troubleshooting of systems functions highly desired

  • Electrical circuit design oversight, systems requirement traceability, systems simulation, coordinating system interface connectors, board layout coordination, system interface design, running circuit simulations and analysis using tools such as MentorGraphix DxDesigner, PSIM, MatLab, or PSPICE

  • Ability to support multiple related subproject phases, hands-on troubleshooting and investigation of customer returns for fielded units, generation of white papers to document investigations with comprehensive root cause analysis, making recommendations for corrective actions, and documenting test results and findings

  • Support for phase 6 production systems parts obsolescence and upgrade activities

  • Knowledge of obsolescence parts replacement, identification of substitute parts, and making related board level drawing changes, and updating test procedures

  • High level understanding for circuit design, circuit simulation, test, and analysis

  • Experience using EE modeling tools such as MATLAB, PSIM or PSPICE circuit modeling tools a plus

Salary Range: $139,000 - $174,000

YOU MUST HAVE

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics

WE VALUE

  • BS EE or Systems Engineering or Control Systems or Computer Engineering, or a similar equivalent engineering degree

  • Ability to produce white papers to document findings, and results of trade studies to determine best alternatives

  • Composition of PowerPoint presentations for project design reviews, and presenting technical solutions to a wide audience of senior level management and customers.

  • Knowledge of Power Electronics (motor controllers, actuators, or high-power generation systems) highly desired. Knowledge in multiple key areas listed is highly desired: AC generator, arc fault detection, AC-DC converter, DC-AC converter, DC-DC converter, DC generator, buck boost inverters, electric drives, electric machine motor design, electric power, aircraft electrical power system architecture, electrical distribution system, electric taxi, electrical generator, inverters, auto-transformer rectifier units (ATRU), and controlled rectifier units.

  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering power electronics desirable.
