Responsible for management of the daily activities and team members of Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) Network Health Information (HI) for Deficiency Tracking and Suspension. Works cooperatively with Director HI Deficiency and Suspension and other leaders to ensure policies and procedures meet or exceed the legal and regulatory requirements as they relate to the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and accepted medical record standards of practice. Manages and organizes the activities of Health Information as it relates to the network. Knowledgeable of Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), The Joint Commission and New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) requirements for medical records, HMH policies and procedures. Cultivates and supports a shared vision of the department consistent with HMH's 5 C's and strategic initiatives.
Responsibilities
A day in the life of a Health Information Manager with Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
Manages the daily activities of Network Health Information that includes medical record deficiencies, deficiency tracking and suspension.
Manages medical record deficiencies and deficiency tracking in a timely manner ensuring medical record deficiencies are timely to support chart completion utilizing established policies and procedures established to ensure accounts are available for patient care and coding.
Ensures meeting regulatory and HMH requirements for security, confidentiality and record retention.
Assists Administration and the Medical Staff through consultation, committee assignment, project assignment, reporting or other mechanisms as deemed necessary.
Demonstrates knowledge of medical records formats and proficiency in information management software.
Ensures that all record keeping and information complies with all regulatory agencies.
Maintains operational aspects of HI department in collaboration with other service areas.
Administers, directs and coordinates activities of Health Information.
Assists in the recommendation, development, and implementation of policies and procedures in HI.
Implements and maintains policies designed to assure appropriate access to medical records while assuring patient confidentiality.
Ensures appropriate staff training and development.
Assists in the recruitment of team members.
Creates and sustains an environment that fosters team member engagement.
Coaches, counsels and evaluates performance of direct reports.
Assists with the management of budget for assigned areas.
Tracks, analyzes, and reports on relevant data and metrics of Chart Processing and Scanning as needed and/or requested.
Recommends and/or implements actions for process improvements as appropriate.
Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
Adheres to HMH's Organizational and Managerial competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or health related field.
Minimum of 5 years manager experience in a network hospital Health Information Department.
Proficient in Computer skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient computer skills such as Microsoft Office and Google Suite platforms.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
- Epic experience in Health Information Management (HIM).
Licenses and Certifications Required:
- Registered Health Information Technician or Registered Health Information Administrator in good standing with the American Health Information Management Association.
