The opportunity

We are looking for a highly dynamic and motivated Senior Research scientist to join a highly experienced scientific team with state-of-the-art facilities that performs discovery and optimisation of therapeutic antibodies.

The candidate will engage in therapeutic antibody research projects from idea phase to finalization and delivery of the mature sequence in collaboration with the antibody generation function and other research groups at Teva. Conceive & conduct research (planning, execution & interpretation) with a focus on hit discovery and screening as well as optimisation of antibodies. Responsible for the generation of therapeutic antibody candidates in a timely and efficient manner

How you’ll spend your day

This is a Hands-on laboratory-based role within the antibody generation team requiring capabilities and responsibilities including:

  • Conduct research and development (planning, execution, and interpretation) on therapeutic antibody discovery projects.

  • General molecular biology (e.g. PCR, DNA purification and analysis, vector design, DNA cloning)

  • DNA and protein sequence analysis

  • Design and execution of antibody discovery and optimization campaigns in-house and in collaboration with partners and CROs.

  • Design of semisynthetic display libraries

  • Generation and screening of immune libraries

  • Design of different formats of antibodies (scFv, Fabs, multispecifics)

  • Optimise antibody attributes for potency, developability and immunogenicity!

  • Development and use of biochemical assays for screening antibody and recombinant protein function (e.g. SPR, ELISA and other immunoassays or screening technologies)

  • Use automation to support antibody production, purification, and screening!

  • Identify and implement new antibody optimisation technologies and other platform improvements as the need arises!

  • Expertise in collecting, analysing, interpreting data, and making recommendations to key stakeholders through clear and concise oral and written communication.

  • Record keeping and maintaining detailed, accurate electronic laboratory notebooks that support data driven decision making, generation of IND submission quality reports.

  • Efficient collaboration wit

  • Mentoring of peers and supporting the development of junior colleagues.

  • Provide regular updates in the form of presentation and reports to the discovery project team.

  • Managing projects with contract research organisations

  • Presenting work regularly at internal meetings

  • Work hand in hand with other teams including cell-based assays, protein generation, CMC, and pre-clinical pharmacology to ensure project goals and timelines are met.

  • Compliance with all employee health and safety, PC2 and gene technology guidelines including adherence to TEVA policies and procedures.

  • Corporate citizenship, including serving on in-house committees.

Your experience and qualifications

• PhD with minimum 4 years’ experience in life sciences

• Qualifications in Molecular Biology, Protein Engineering, Immunology, or a related field

• Strong molecular biology skills

• Proven expertise in immunogenicity assessment methodologies, including in vitro and in silico approaches.

• Previous experience in industry-based R&D highly regarded.

• An understanding of the drug discovery and development process related to therapeutic antibodies.

• Knowledge of immune repertoire and antibody structure/function is desirable.

• Proven track record of adopting new technologies or experimentation – promotes continuous improvement.

• Ability to communicate effectively (both written and verbal) is required.

• Experience managing staff is highly desirable.

• An active interest in therapeutic drug discovery and development

• Ability to organise and report study data from internal and external sources.

• Excellent interpersonal skills, a can-do attitude and driven by succeeding as a team.

• Excellent adaptability and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to work in independently and within cross-functional teams, with a strong focus on engagement and influence of team members.

• Well organised, attention to detail and able to coordinate multiple activities simultaneously.
