Ford Motor Company Mechanical Engineer Product Development in Sunrise, Florida

Mechanical Engineer working within the Sunrise product development team. Candidate will design enclosures for vehicle electronics. This includes designing for reliability, cost, and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Mechanical Engineering Technical Lead on development of electronic modules for use in Ford Vehicles.

  • Collaborating with Hardware Engineers, PCB Designers and the Mechanical Engineering Lead to identify ensure robust deigns that will pass internal reliability testing.

  • Work with Vehicle Packaging Engineers to ensure Module Thermal Packaging Specifications and RF Specifications are followed in vehicle mounting/placement of the Module

  • Perform Thermal Testing and other Mechanical Testing on products under development

  • Create prototypes of designs via 3D-Printing and/or other rapid prototyping options

  • Create 2D prints utilizing GD&T

  • Support part manufacturing suppliers

  • Support final assembly suppliers

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • 3+ years’ experience in product design of mass-produced products

  • 3+ years’ experience with a 3D CAD SW tool

  • Part design of die castings, injection molded parts, and stamped sheet-metal parts.

  • Familiar with manufacturing and tooling requirements for dies cast and injection molded parts

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • 3+ years of experience designing mechanical components

  • Experience with electronics cooling

  • Familiar with assembly line set-up and optimization

  • Experience with Catia 3D Solid Modeling Software

  • Experience with Team Center

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, PPT, Word...)

  • Demonstrated team player as well as self-motivated

  • Ability to communicate effectively with peers, internal and external teams

  • High attention to detail

  • Ability to modify/re-work parts with basic prototyping tools (end mill, band saw, drill press, etc…)

Even better, you may have...

  • Proven embedded software development skills with QNX and/or Linux.

  • Experience in multi-threaded programming.

  • Development experience with C++ and object-oriented programming.

  • Familiar with object-oriented design principals and patterns.

  • Development experience with C.

  • Familiar with SPI, UART, I2C, Ethernet or other networking protocols.

  • Development experience with Python or other scripting languages.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with time critical projects.

  • Motivated to work in a quality oriented innovative environment.

  • Clear understanding of writing time critical software.
