The Research Foundation for The State University of New York at Stony Brook Research Support Specialist in Stony Brook, New York

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelors' degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, or related fields. Experience in cell culture, transfection, gene cloning, DNA extraction and purification, PCR, and/or Western blotting.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with laboratory maintenance.

Brief Description of Duties:
Dr. Peng Mao's Laboratory at Stony Brook Medicine is looking for a Research Support Specialist to carry out CRISPR gene editing and CRISPR screening experiments. The candidate will also assist the Principal Investigator to organize and maintain the lab and help other laboratory personnel with cell biology (e.g., gene knockouts) and molecular biology (e.g., DNA cloning, Western blotting, cell transfection, etc.) experiments.
The candidate must be willing to take directions from the PI and other senior lab personnels (Research faculty and Postdocs) and work cooperatively. The candidate should be able to work independently by following protocols. The candidate should have strong organizational skills and familiarity with lab ordering. The candidate should have a willingness to train new students.

Duties:

  • Conduct experiments
  • Lab maintenance, including autoclave, prepare general lab chemicals, and dispose waste
  • Train new students
  • Find reagents and place orders
  • Protocol documentation and ensure compliance with all Institutional Review Board and Safety policies
  • Other duties as assigned
