WestRock Company Environmental Supervisor - Wastewater Treatment in Stevenson, Alabama
CAREER OPPORTUNITY:
Reporting to the Environmental Manager this position oversees the operation of the Mill Wastewater Treatment Plant and works to ensure compliance with all environmental permits in all media areas including, but not limited to water, air, waste, radiation, etc. Coordinates and facilitates activities to ensure Environmental compliance and employee safety. Completes other duties as assigned.
HOW YOU WILL IMPACT WESTROCK:
Key responsibilities include:
Primary supervision of the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) operations and Environmental Operators, including direction of the day to day activities.
Safety, training, and assignment of work to the personnel in his/her area.
Troubleshooting, diagnosing, and solving issues in and around the operation of the WWTP.
Writing work, MOC, purchase, and contract requests to maintain optimum reliability, safety and environmental compliance.
Interfacing with maintenance to prioritize and schedule work as well as maintenance spending in his/her area along with the other members of the team.
Managing the land application program and any other environmental programs as required.
Maintaining the equipment in his/her area in such a way that the equipment has the maximum possible uptime at the lowest possible cost. Expected to be the chief troubleshooter on the equipment in his/her area.
Aide and assist engineering with proposed and current projects and upgrades as well as offering input on possible compliance implications on other mill projects as well as their effects on the WWTP operability.
Schedule, monitor, and interpret required laboratory sample analysis for the Mill’s environmental permits as well as leading indicator process samples.
Contractor Interface.
Ability to monitor, analyze, and interpret:
o Lab data
o Process data
o Spreadsheets
o Pi data & trends
o Operator input
o Lab QA/QC data and control charts for compliance testing
- Ensure all required compliance testing is completed with the proper frequencies, test protocols, holding times, etc. and have the ability to complete the proper reports:
o WWTP lab testing
o Daily operational data
o Required inspections
o Developing and enforcing BMP’s
Research and develop continuous improvement projects to improve the mills operations, cost structure, etc.
Assist the Environmental Manager with SPCC Program, Land, Air, Waste, and Water management, waste minimization, and other projects as required
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or related field
2+ years’ relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications:
5+ years’ experience supervising environmental treatment operations
Experience with ASB’s and Activated Sludge
Experience interacting with ADEM and/or EPA
Supervisory experience in a union environment
Possess Level III (or higher) Wastewater Technician Certification
Working knowledge of environmental laws and requirements at the local, state, and federal levels
KNOWLEDGE - SKILLS - ABILITIES:
Knowledge of Pi Systems
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to interact with employees at all levels
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated leadership and ability to drive change
Extensive working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
The ability to interface with regulatory agencies and all levels of the WestRock organization in a positive manner
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Ability to troubleshoot equipment and situations
