MATSYS, Inc. CNC Machinist Intern in Sterling, Virginia

MATSYS, Inc. is seeking a skilled CNC Machinist Intern capable of running manual/CNC lathes and/or mills to join its team of high-performing scientists, engineers, and technicians at its Sterling, VA facility. [The position is full-time (temporary) and compensation is commensurate with experience. Shop hours are Monday-Friday, 6 am to 2:30 pm. This position offers an excellent opportunity to learn hands-on!

The successful candidate will be focused on operating safely and will display a desire to constantly improve. General knowledge and experience working with metal or ceramic powder, analytical equipment, machine and welding shop environments, and with engineering prototyping and design is also beneficial.

This is an entry-level position - we will provide on-the-job training!

  • Complete set-up and operation of CNC lathes and/or CNC mills
  • Calculate and set controls for proper machining
  • Identify, fabricate, and set-up correct tooling for jobs
  • Verify conformity and quality of finished parts
  • Operate manual mills and/or lathes
  • Perform regular machine maintenance and cleaning
  • Other duties as assigned

Required

  • Minimum of 18 years of age (hazardous work)
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Enrollment in a degreed or certification program in Machine Technology, Precision Machining, or CNC Operations or closely related field

Preferred

  • Experience with CNC and manual lathe and/or mill operations
