The Minnesota Department of Health is seeking a Laboratory Scientist 3.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Lead the coordination of the core extraction area.

  • Support the daily activities of the core extraction area to prepare samples for downstream molecular assays and to support research activities.

  • Serve as the section resource and provide technical expertise for nucleic acid extraction performed in the core.

  • Participate in the MDH-PHL IDL quality assurance program.

  • Ensure that records and information is available to support effective decisions, meet legal and regulatory data calls, document official business, and pass on custodianship when appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications

A related associate degree may be substituted for six (6) months of experience. A related bachelor's degree may be substituted for one (1) year of experience. A related master's degree may be substituted for one and a half (1.5) years of experience. A related doctorate degree may be substituted for two (2) years of experience. To facilitate proper years of service crediting, please ensure that your resume clearly describes your experience in the areas listed and indicates the beginning and ending month and year for each job held.

Must have at least three (3) years of experience in the following areas:

  • Core extraction experience in a public health, hospital-based, clinical-based, or academic laboratory setting.

Additional minimum qualifications to be assessed during the interview:

  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate in a clear, concise, effective manner.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Considerable knowledge and experience with molecular methods for detection of pathogens.

  • Considerable knowledge of the principles of molecular biology and microbiology.

  • Knowledge of and experience with next generation sequencing.

  • Four (4) years of molecular experience within a clinical/diagnostic laboratory regulatory environment.
