Laboratory Technician (TEMP)
St. George’s University invites applicants
for the position of
Laboratory Technician
within the Biochemistry Department, School of MedicineSpecial note to applicants:
· Review of applicants will be ongoing until a suitable candidate is identified.
· This is a temporary position for the period 15th August to 6th December, 2024
Objective:
Laboratory Assistants are responsible for helping Laboratory Technicians perform routine laboratory and general clerical tasks, necessary for daily operations of the laboratory and during student lab sessions. The Laboratory Assistant will work closely in supporting the Laboratory Technicians and Demonstrations, while adhering to the safety rules and abiding by the guidelines stipulated in the Safety Manual of the Biochemistry Laboratory.
Essential Functions:
Collect, prepare, clean and store glassware and other lab equipment
Set up laboratory equipment
Assist in supervising student experiments and procedures
Assist with preparing, stocking and distributing reagents, chemical solutions and stains
Important requirements:
Keep all information, regarding practical sessions, confidential
Must be punctual for any pre/post practical activity and/or practical session
Must be helpful and approachable
Qualifications :
An SGU Undergraduate degree and MUST have completed the Molecular Lab component and obtained at least a B grade.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
This job is primarily performed in a Laboratory setting
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and
arms to handle reagents and chemicals
The employee must occasionally lift or move office/laboratory products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.
Hours and Travel:
A typical work week is 5 - 10 hours per week, with flexible times to according to the Lab schedules.
