Summary This WS-4749-10 Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor position will be located at Zion National Park in Springdale, UT. The primary purpose of this position is to supervise the work center for Roads, Sign Shop, and Masonry. Maintenance Mechanic Supervisors at this level possess journeyman level knowledge for the development, implementation, management, and supervision of short and long-term planning and day-to-day activities of a park, or similar field maintenance operation including facilities such as: Heavy equipment operation, Road maintenance, Carpentry, Masonry, Repair of facilities, Front country trails, Campgrounds, Picnic areas, Sign operations, and/or Vehicle fleet operation/maintenance. Experience includes winter snow operations in a remote area. This position requires a current, valid Class A CDL (Commercial Driver's License). Physical Demands: Physical effort is heavy to moderate, and requires occasional lifting or handling of objects or materials up to 50-100 pounds, unassisted, following proper lifting procedures to avoid injury. Frequently required to stand while working, climb ladders or scaffolding, and bend, stoop, climb, and work in awkward positions. This requires standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and cramped positions. Working Conditions: Exposed to a variety of seasonal weather conditions while working outdoors (temperatures -40 to 90+ degrees). Subject to danger of falling from ladders or scaffolding. Exposed to dust, dirt, wind, and rain. May work with dangerous chemicals and around moving equipment; paints, solvents, etc. May be exposed to electrical shocks, and biting insects. The incumbent's clothing may become soiled fromĀ· grease, dust, and chemicals. There is frequent exposure to the possibility of cuts, bruises, falling, bums, broken bones and chemical vapors, constant noise, rotating machinery, dust, grease, chemicals, oil, fumes and infectious blood pathogens when working in or about systems. Incumbent may also be exposed to energized circuits, electrical shock, burns, electrical rotary devices, cuts and abrasions from the use of tools and equipment and bums from chemicals. The incumbent is required to wear prescribed safety equipment and to adhere to safety rules and regulations, and standards as set by OSHA and the Park's established Safety Plan. Snowmobile operation is occasionally required for winter operations at some park locations. Must possess a valid State Driver's License Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males. DIRECT DEPOSIT: Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. DRUG TESTING: You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use. DRIVER'S LICENSE: You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. COMMERCIAL DRIVER'S LICENSE: You must possess and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License. UNIFORM: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. WORK SCHEDULE: You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. PROBATIONARY PERIOD: If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period. TRAVEL: Travel is infrequent, but you may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 1 night per month, with the possibility of up to one week per year for training or to assist other parks. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Qualifications To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: SCREEN OUT - Ability to Lead or Supervise: Ability to Lead or Supervise as a Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor, WS-4749-10. The climate is generally hot with daytime high temperatures ranging from 95 to 110 degrees in the summer, and 55 to 10 degrees in the winter. Nighttime lows range from 65 degrees in the summer to 10 degrees in the winter. Minimal shopping is available in Springdale, Utah, located two (2) miles from Park Headquarters. A full range of shopping, medical, dental, religious, and recreational facilities are available in Hurricane (25 miles), St. George, (45 miles), and in Cedar City, (63 miles), Utah. Elementary school (grades K-5) is available in Springdale, with bus service provided. Junior high and high school is available in Hurricane, with bus service provided. Utah Tech University is located in St. George, and Southern Utah University is located in Cedar City. Due to the desirable nature of the area surrounding Zion National Park, please be sure to research and understand the limited housing options and the area's cost-of-living. Park/Government housing is not available for this position. Documentation for the Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA) eligibility, submission of ALL SF-50s and performance information for each period of temporary/term employment that qualifies for LMWFA. Performance documentation can be obtained by contacting the supervisors for the positions you served in during your 24 months. If they did not complete performance appraisals ask them to provide a statement of performance for each period of service. The statement must specify the dates for each employment period and your level of performance (dates should match the dates on the SF-50s).
