$20.91 per hour

Description

Pay Rate: $21.33 hr.

POSITION SUMMARY:Performs mechanical repairs and fabrication of materials for facilities, equipment, and water system maintenance. Receives and handles Water Works inventory materials. Assists Construction and Maintenance crews in all aspects of Water Works Distribution system repairs.

SCHEDULE:M-Th 6:00am-4:00 pm Summer, M-F 7:00am-3:00pm Winter, Schedule may vary based on departmental need.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Repairs and maintains Water Works facility buildings and properties, including scheduling and assisting with contracted service repair providers.
  • Repairs and maintains pumps, motors, saws, mowers and other gas, electric, pneumatic and hydraulic powered tools.
  • Maintains equipment and buildings according to proper safety and OSHA requirements.
  • Fabricates and constructs materials as required to maintain water distribution system.
  • Performs welding for material fabrication and similar repairs.
  • Handles purchasing of various tools, equipment and supplies.
  • Operates motorized power and hand tools.
  • Operates heavy equipment such as loaders, backhoes, skid loaders, and hydro-excavators.
  • Plows snow for Water Works and city properties.

NON-ESSENTIAL/MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as apparent or as assigned.

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years experience performing welding and mechanical repair.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of mechanical and welding repair procedures.
  • Knowledgeable in operating motorized power hand tools.
  • Ability to work strenuously.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public.
  • Work in adverse weather conditions

CERTIFICATES, LICENSE, REGISTRATION: Valid Drivers license required.

EQUIPMENT:Drill press, lathe, power saw, grinders, welders, and compressor.

Specific vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. he employee must lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:Work is done in a maintenance shop environment and outdoors in all weather conditions. The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts, frequently works in wet and/or humid conditions, and is exposed to airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibrations. The employee is occasionally exposed to electric shock. The noise in the work environment is usually moderate to noisy.
