JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of General Tradesperson.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in an environment where you will contribute to OPG’s public outreach, engagement and education efforts as part of the company’s commitment to growing its social license.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Responsibilities are consistent with training and experience for performing basic trades operations.

  • In accordance with prescribed safety procedures and regulations, performs routine service trades duties.

  • Accountable for the health, safety and wellbeing of self and others, in accordance with procedures and standards.

  • Assist in performing routine tasks involving, erecting, dismantling, reassembling, moving, loading and unloading, servicing, various fixtures, materials, structures, furniture, buildings, hardware, equipment and vehicles.

  • Carry out cleaning, laundering, and other housekeeping and janitorial tasks.

  • Carry out ground maintenance, including snow-removal.

  • Operate any vehicle or combination of vehicle and trailer up to the level trained.

  • Operates portable, hand- and power-driven tools and equipment.

  • Perform work protection code (WPC) activities up to the level trained.

  • Stock storerooms and maintain supplies.

  • Under the direction of the Head Chef, prepares and serves meals, ensures that meals are prepared on time and sufficient food is cooked to meet specific requirements.

  • Overnight stay at the staff house is required for this position on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

EDUCATION

  • Grade 10, or equivalent.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience with food handling and janitorial/custodial experience is preferred

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work inside or outside (in all types of weather conditions)

  • Able to work alone or as a collaborative team player

  • Ability to work occasional nights

  • Good judgement and problem-solving skills

  • Positive, professional and enthusiastic demeanor

  • Must have a valid G license in good standing

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time

  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment (lift up to 50 lbs.)
