Sow Farm Manager (Multiple Positions). Christensen Farms & Feedlots, Inc., Sleepy Eye, Minnesota. Responsible for swine production and welfare, facility care, and personnel management at a single assigned sow site. Develop breeding plans that will achieve stated production numbers, based on knowledge of conception and farrow rates and genetic composition of the pigs; develop a parity plan through analysis of the point at which a sow s litter of piglets will decline to ensure farm is performing at the highest level; plan and direct production phases and required processes; ensure all employees are adhering to bio-security protocols, recommending and implementing changes to internal procedures to assist in ensuring continued compliance with bio-security protocols; develop training opportunities in the areas of breeding, farrowing, gestation, nutrition, vaccination, bio-security, and safety practices for new employees and to advance the skills of existing employees, including other Animal Breeder and Animal Scientist positions; participate in the development of new protocols related to animal handling and breeding and farrowing practices; ensure appropriate implementation of new protocols; manage farm resources appropriately, including labor, feed, and medication inventory; and provide leadership to farm employees, including Animal Breeder positions. Requires a Bachelor s degree in Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine or related degree. 1 year experience in swine production or related animal production field. Demonstrated understanding of animal production practices in the pork industry. Demonstrated understanding of relevant animal welfare regulations and industry standards. Demonstrated understanding of bio-security protocols within swine production or related agricultural field. Previous experience leading a team. Work may also be performed in Comfrey, MN, Butterfield, MN, Hanska, MN, Dunnell, MN, and Lafayette, MN.
