Basic purpose of the job

To define and execute the local publication plans in a strategic and compliant manner, considering the overarching HPBU and brand specific strategy and ensuring:

  • regular cross-functional alignment and approval of the local publication plans for the assigned Therapeutic Areas or projects

  • timely, unbiased and accurate publication of clinical trials data in scientific journals or at scientific congresses

  • liaising with all stakeholders for the planning and development of the publication, especially external experts involved as authors or steering committee members

  • improvement of the communication mix for scientific journals or scientific congress, e.g. digital enhancements, internal communication, newsletters or publication alerts

  • oversight of the publication development and approval processes within the Boehringer Ingelheim systems

  • measurement of publication development effectiveness and impact

Accountabilities

  1. Define the local publication strategy for a Therapeutic Area or brand & translate into specific (short- and mid-term) publication activities; priorization of publications to ensure that the publications fulfill scientific and country needs; lead publication planning and steering committee meetings with internal and external stakeholders

  2. Manage the functional processes for strategic publication planning, including strategic publication plan development, approval and internal communication

  2. Manage the local functional processes for publication development and release and implement operational changes; ensure functional process implementation in Nippon Boehringer Ingelheim to ensure adherence to Corporate SOP

  2. Lead the publication planning process for the relevant drug/TA, including communication on roles and responsibilities and provide expertise on publication management to TA colleagues

Job Complexity

  • publication strategy needs to fulfill Boehringer Ingelheim requirements in regards to forum, timing and content while adhering to global and local guidelines that regulate publication timing, data sharing, author interactions, etc.

  • the development of publications involves many different stakeholders with differing/conflicting priorities and needs

  • in addition to print publications, new electronic ways of communication and additional digital formats need to be included in the strategic planning and publication development

-Timely delivery of scientific publications according to the aligned strategic publication plan and in alignment with the broader strategic plans for the TA and individual products

Minimum Education/Degree Requirements

Mandatory: Bachelor's Degree

Preferred: Master’s Degree in a field related to Healthcare, e.g., Clinical Studies, Medical Writing, Statistics, Epidemiology, Health-Economics, etc.

Required Capabilities (Skills, Experience, Competencies)

-3 years experience in Medical Affairs/publication management in the pharmaceutical industry or editorial, publishing and writing experience at a medical communications agency

-CMPP(Certified Medical Publication Professional)

-Strong project and process management skills, experience leading project teams and developing plans, scope definition and presentations

-Strong experience working with external experts/authors

-Ability to negotiate and influence across a matrix & cross-functional organization

-Ability to contribute to data interpretation of study results as an internal author

-Drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content

-Experience in external vendor + budget management

-Language: Fluency in oral and written English

-Strong written and verbal communication skills

-Strong results orientation

-Ability to work independently
