Job Overview

This position entails leadership, management and support for engineering activities associated with product modification requests (PMRs), sustaining NPDs, documentation and drafting services, prototyping and model shop, UL/CSA test lab operations, CAD support and related services for all new and revised products, and review of customer complaints for our EP (Electrical Products) business unit.

This position also provides senior management status view to all projects & activities. Manages department and project budget reporting to ensure that the department activities are aligned to the strategic business plan and goals of the Engineering Department

A Day In The Life

  • Responsible for staffing, training, organization, productivity, and general management of the Engineering Support department.

  • Leadership of the Product Support team and Sustaining Engineering team to ensure timely and accurate execution of PMRs, Sustaining NPDs, Product Complaint reviews, DFMA activities, and other required activities to support production and maintain certification (UL/CSA Listings etc) of our core product lines.

  • Report project status as needed to management and take all necessary steps to maintain project schedules.

  • Leadership of the Engineering Test Lab to ensure timely and accurate execution of all testing activities including CTDP (UL Client Test Data Plan) and SMTC (CSA Supervised Manufacturer’s Testing for Certification) conformance, safety protocols, maintenance of test equipment, and accurate testing documentation. Act as Administrator for ISO17025 Laboratory Compliance for Shelton and Vega Baja locations.

  • Leadership of the Drafting and Documentation team, including working with Hubbell India Engineering resources to manage and process Engineering Change Documentation (Bills of Materials, Drawings, DIRs (Documentation Information Records) and ISO process documentation.

  • Leadership and oversight of the Shelton Model Shop ensuring safety and proper operations to align with the business needs of prototyping to support NPD and NPX activities.

  • Responsible for budget control for all assigned functions.

  • Participate in strategic and business planning functions including product strategies, workforce requirements, and expense and capital budget proposals.

  • Stay abreast of technological developments in areas of responsibility.

  • Support Standards and Code development pertinent to EP core products (UL, CSA, NFPA, and IEC).

  • Manage and disposition Engineering deviations as needed.

  • Participate in NEMA Standards group meetings as applicable.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that can require the need to address urgent matters to help sustain production & certification of core product lines.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interface with our international manufacturing locations, cross functional stakeholders, customers, and third-party certification agencies.

What will help you thrive in this role?

Minimum of a BS Degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred). Master’s degree (MBA, MS or MOT also preferred)

Ten years minimum in an Engineering leadership/management role directing a team of at least 10 directs. Ten years minimum experience in the design of electrical wiring device products.
