As a Thermal Design Engineer you will take a critical role in developing systems for VR, AR, Smart Glasses, and Wearables. You will be part of a team exploring and developing consumer electronics products over the full lifecycle, from prototypes to mass-production. You will work as part of a cross functional team requiring collaboration and curiosity in domains inside and outside thermal engineering. Our ideal candidate has strong thermal engineering fundamentals, CFD tool fluency, manufacturing process knowledge, and experience in thermal modeling, testing, failure analysis, mechanical design, and launching consumer electronics products.This role is field personnel.

Required Skills:

Thermal Design Engineer Responsibilities:

1. Support the development of novel thermal technologies with cross-functional teams such as mechanical, electrical, software, operations, mechanical test, and quality.

2. Distill complex designs to simplified analytical models to quickly identify thermal design approaches.

3. Build CFD models of our HW products in early concept phases and validate through prototype testing

4. Validate thermal models through prototype testing

5. Support the development of thermal throttling policies with cross-functional partners.

6. Balance product performance with various component and product limitations

7. Partner with Product Design Engineering to provide feedback and recommendations on how to optimize the thermal design for performance and cost

8. Work closely with CM partners to provide design feedback, lead failure analysis investigations, and drive thermal validation testing and analysis of products built at scale.

9. Partner with thermal material suppliers on integrating and validating new solutions into our products.

Minimum Qualifications:

10. 4+ years experience in thermal modeling and analysis

11. Experience using CFD tools such as FloEFD (or equivalent) to model and analyze thermal performance

12. Working knowledge, and demonstrated experience modeling various consumer electronic systems or sub-systems (LCD's, SOC's, etc.)

13. Experience in thermal validation of electronics products.

14. Demonstrated experience developing thermal solutions with a wide variety of components and materials such as aerogels, thin film heat spreaders, phase change materials, and other compliant materials

15. High volume consumer product experience

16. Validation of active cooling components, such as fans and blowers.

17. Mechanical design experience of thermal components, such as fans, heatpipes, and heatsinks.

18. Experience in common programming languages to support test and analysis automation, such as Python, Matlab, or shell.
